We’ll see what a strict constitutionalist Supreme Court justice appointment in the mold of Scalia thinks about that. If he picks one of the judges on his list, it is anything but settled. He’s attempting to avoid more liberal media hysteria.

Agree.

If I had to guess his real views (probably I’m projecting here), it would be that they should be treated like all other Americans. Not abused, but also not given special privileges and protections.

It is settled law. Rufus Q. Puffball judge said so. Until it becomes unsettled law. The same can be said of abortion. It is settled law, until it is overturned.

It was an artful dodge of a “Gotcha” question. No point in letting Leslie Stahl have her Stephanopoulos moment. There are bigger fish, Yuuge fish, to fry. Eyes on the prize.
