The guy pretends to get it, but then he betrays that he doesn't by ending with...

"But new presidents typically get an electoral whupping after their first two years, and there’s every reason to believe that Trump will govern — or fail to — in a fashion that prompts one. Will Democrats respond in a way that puts them in the best possible position to deliver it?

That hinges on whether they can look as hard at the errors in their party as at the ugliness in America."

consigned many to a “basket of deplorables” who aren’t all deplorable. Some are hurt. Some are confused.

We are not hurt. We are not confused. We are not deplorable - we just wear the label with honor because of the perfidy of those who conferred it.

We are pissed. Pissed at a bunch of anti-American turncoat sell-out whiners who tried to destroy everything that America really stands for. You claim compassion, but you spit on all, your whorshippers and your detractors alike. You claim justice, but you deliver no justice to anyone. But you aren't deplorable. We are deplorable. You - you are despicable.

And you are stupid and delusional. Instead of talking to each other in an echo chamber, listen. Listen to us. Follow a couple of folks on twitter you don't want to hear from. Read Free Republic - just don't join and don't clutter it up with postings of your trashy rants.

It’s the Democraps who have a lot of vulnerable senate seats up in 2018, so they should not start getting smug for a long long time.

Great that through his condescending sanctimony he realizes that all the racist, sexist, homophobes are not sexist.

The Democrats screwed up alright... they started believing their own slanted polls and demagogues. So they didn’t cheat as much as they needed to win in some key states that they didn’t think would be battlegrounds.

The only way we will win the presidency in the future is by using both houses of congress and the presidency to assure accountability, transparency and fairness to our national election process. Just the number of illegal aliens who voted after being assured by Obama there would be no consequences was no doubt staggering, but other outright fraud most likely added millions more fraudulent votes to the total also.

Trump brought the fight to too many states where the fraud machine was not firmly in place. He outmaneuvered them.

He doesnt get it.

He cant figure, outmthat white people, who disagree can also not be racist. He judt picks a 64 year old black woman as the example they might - MIGHT - possibly,be wrong about.

They are never going to learn. I really believe that.

Because tovlearn requires them to believe that they can be wrong. That others may disagree with them for more than one legitimate valid reasons that do not require their permission to hold. And that while they may have a worldview that they believe works for them, others may have worldviews that work for them, and work better than their do. That, others may have better solutions,to things than they do.

They cant learn thismstuff because it threatens their worldview and it causes them to have to critically examine their beliefs. They dont do that. It shows the illogic and contradictions inherent in their patchwork of “values”.

As hard as it is to predict an election, it’s even harder to predict how 4 years of a presidency goes.

We tend to forget Bush Jr. campaigned against nation-building and was fairly isolationist in his attitude. Then China kidnapped our plane and 9/11 happened.

A 64-year-old Southern woman not onboard with marriage equality finds herself characterized as a hateful boob. Never mind that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton weren’t themselves onboard just five short years ago.

Sentence of note.

His presidency will end with Democrats in possession of 11 fewer Senate seats (depending on how you count), more than 60 fewer House seats, at least 14 fewer governorships and more than 900 fewer seats in state legislatures than when it began. That’s a staggering toll.

To add the staggering toll, Republicans now control 66 of 99 statehouses.

Yet, Frank Bruni is historically correct when he observes:

But new presidents typically get an electoral whupping after their first two years, and there’s every reason to believe that Trump will govern — or fail to — in a fashion that prompts one.

Putting aside the author's negativity, we dare not ignore the lessons of history. 2, 4,6 or 8 years from now our overwhelmingly favorable prospect in a 50 statehouses might be entirely altered just as the count in Congress might turn toward our disfavor. Only the arrogant believe that they are politically invulnerable and we must count the possibility that this moment of opportunity is transitory.

Now is the time to proceed when it is utterly safe to do so against any downside risk coming from the liberal side toward an Article V amendment process to enshrine conservatism in the Constitution, that is, to restore the Constitution to its original intent by invoking the very remedy laid out in the Constitution. Now is the time, the risk is virtually nonexistent, on a mathematical basis it is practically impossible that conservatives cannot find 17 statehouses among 66 to stop any untoward leftist amendment.

We should be proceeding in Washington with the Trump administration in parallel with Article V reform in the statehouses which we control. We will not control Washington for ever, the demographics are dead against us. Now is the time to enshrine in the Constitution the values which animated us to support Donald Trump and defeat Hillary Clinton.
