California is quickly becoming a battleground for immigration policy as a cross-section of leaders across the state vowed to fight any plans by President-elect Donald Trump to deport thousands of people in the U.S. illegally.
Trump said during the presidential campaign that hell build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and deport people in the country illegally. He is expected to unwind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, an initiative by President Obama that protects immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children.
California has some of the nations most liberal policies when it comes to handling immigrants here illegally. The state has allowed them to get drivers licenses, health coverage for children and in-state tuition. Institutions like churches also support immigrants.
But the Golden State could be on a collision course with Trump if he pushes hard-line immigration policies enthusiastically backed by many of his supporters.

If LA had a massive earth quake, the problem would go away
Just enforcing the existing laws will cause a sea change. Trump doesn’t need Congress to do this. It can start from Day one.
Why don’t they separate then....
Why not turn Kali into the sanctuary state? Put all questionable people there...the illegals, the unvetted, those who were brought into the US and forced into sanctuary cities. Put all the snowflake millennials, rioting, hateful political troublemakers, liberal tree huggers...everybody with an attitude and such..Put them all in Kali, and they must forfeit any and all federal monies (tax payer money).
They have to make it on their own. They have to grow their own food, manage their resources, develop their own industries and jobs, form their own government, all of it. The USA will defend their eastern-most border, and the shores to the west, but other than that, they’re on their own.
I wonder what kind of government they’d form, and how they’d do what it takes to survive and flourish???
“Brace yourself for the endless sob stories of illegals facing deportation, particularly the ones who were brought over here as infants and have lived her their entire law-abiding, high-achieving lives.”
Well, one of the GREAT THINGS about this election is that conservatives are FINALLY realizing that the media might just be biased, so it won’t get them nearly as much mileage as it did in the past.
(and I’m talking about the vast majority of conservatives, not us political junkies who have know it all of our lives)
Hey, Jim Robinson, myeself and many other good Freepers live in CA.
Start with the DOJ, enforce the laws! Then, at end of day, if Congress does not fold, threat of losing federal funding will get California in line. Also, Trump had better make great choices for 9th circuit appointments.
And that is how they started the Trump train that just rolled over them, by people being pissed in reaction.
Hey! Imagine how much more water California will have to share among its legal citizens once it kicks out illegal aliens and their families.
Correct! The term "illegal immigrant" presupposes that we already know why they're here (namely: to immigrate, i.e., to settle down). But some of them could just as easily be here for other purposes (earn some money for a season, then go home; sell drugs, then go home; plant bombs, then go home; etc.).
The most-neutral and thus most-accurate term is "illegal alien."
Regards,
Just the very left coast. The interior is much more politically normal, and includes the Central Valley where a hell of a lot of the nation's food comes from.
Don’t even need to look outside California... California voters approved Proposition 187 with 58% approval in1994. It was to, among other things, deny all non-emergency services to illegal aliens. A federal judge ruled it unconstitutional on the grounds that it was the exclusive domain of the Feds, and the next gov (Gray Davis) dropped the appeal. Such a measure would not have a chance today since ~20% of the CA electorate are citizen children of illegals. Of course CA will try to stop the wall, too much of the lifestyle Californians have come to enjoy depends on below-market illegal labor and stopping the flow would in the long-run turn CA into a swing state again.
Shoe's on the other foot. How do ya like it now?
CA can bluster all they want, but they cannot stop the Feds from implementing immigration policy as they see fit.
In other words; does his job and enforces the existing laws.
Don’t worry. We’ll send troops in to liberate all of you before we start choppin’. ;o)
We used to correctly call them invaders.
It’s valuable real estate I’d rather not give up without a fight.
The one thing that the FedGov absolutely does have control over is our national borders....the states have only advisory status. If Congress votes to build a wall, and provides the funds to do so, the wall WILL be built.
Yes they are unworthy of being called immigrants.
That is a good point. We need to stop the practice of giving citizenship to anchor babies.
Of course CA will try to stop the wall, too much of the lifestyle Californians have come to enjoy depends on below-market illegal labor and stopping the flow would in the long-run turn CA into a swing state again.
Depending on illegal alien labor only benefits the unethical rich. When illegals do jobs for under-the-table wages, they are not paying taxes on those wages (strike one), and Americans are put out of work (strike two). Ordinary Americans do not benefit from illegal alien labor at all. It is a major reason that the income gap in CA is becoming wider.
