California and Trump are on a collision course over immigrants here illegally
The Los Angeles Times ^ | November 12th, 2016 | Makeda Easter and Dakota SmithContact Reporter

California is quickly becoming a battleground for immigration policy as a cross-section of leaders across the state vowed to fight any plans by President-elect Donald Trump to deport thousands of people in the U.S. illegally.

Trump said during the presidential campaign that he’ll build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and deport people in the country illegally. He is expected to unwind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, an initiative by President Obama that protects immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children.

California has some of the nation’s most liberal policies when it comes to handling immigrants here illegally. The state has allowed them to get driver’s licenses, health coverage for children and in-state tuition. Institutions like churches also support immigrants.

But the Golden State could be on a collision course with Trump if he pushes hard-line immigration policies enthusiastically backed by many of his supporters.

If I remember correctly, the DOJ sued Arizona, and won, on the principal that the Federal government has exclusive dominion of immigration law.

And the left/media spent a couple of months hammering that point home.

CA can bluster all they want, but they cannot stop the Feds from implementing immigration policy as they see fit.

So, why don’t they separate then?

Yeah, California, you will do this.

Cry all you want—you are done.

I thought California was going to secede or move to Canada or something. Trump needs to knock off all Federal dollars to California. They’re a bunch of idiots and U.S. tax dollars shouldn’t be wasted on idiots.

I’ve said it before... chop California loose from the its neighboring states, tow it out to sea and sink it.

Governor Brewer in AZ wasn't allowed to have her own immigration policy under Obola and Governor Moonbeam won't be allowed to either.

I have a quaint piece of advice for California, the Feds under Obama, and the Feds under Trump: respect the Rule of Law.

In in this case, illegal immigrant means illegal immigrant. Period.

That’s exactly right. The courts have ruled that states have no standing regarding immigration enforcement.

Thanks Obama!

Trump is going to defund all sanctuary cities. We will see how Los Angeles and San Francisco fair after they are hit in the pocket book. They will come around when they lose their precious funding. Trump is going to beat them at their own game.

Gee....haven’t judges ruled for decades that the Feds decide immigration policy (vs. the states)?

Prosecute those local officials who aid/abet lawbreakers.

There are lots of us in California who have waited a very long time for someone who will enforce the immigration laws, and send packing the millions of foreign nationals squatting in this country illegally.

Brace yourself for the endless sob stories of illegals facing deportation, particularly the ones who were brought over here as infants and have lived her their entire law-abiding, high-achieving lives.

Stories about the drunk-driving, rapists and murdering illegals facing deportation? Not so much.

A President who is going to make the illegals go back to where they came from. Who is putting the needs of his country first, above all other interests.

What a time to be alive!!!

“If I remember correctly, the DOJ sued Arizona, and won, on the principal that the Federal government has exclusive dominion of immigration law.”

Exactly - there is no ‘collision’ between California and the federal government, it is now SETTLED LAW that the feds control immigration policy.

In the case of California, what we’ll first see is the turquoise Border Patrol trucks STOPPING at farms being picked by Illegals, rather than driving by while looking the other way. It won’t take long until the message is made VERY CLEAR as to who the new bosses are.

I believe that marijuana is still governed nationally as a drug offense. That runs smack into the recent initiative for recreational drugs in Ca. Give it back to Mexico and let them deal with the problem. Guarantee Ca would be screaming for reentry within a few minutes.
