Former Attorney General Eric Holder joins Bill Maher to discuss the aftermath of Donald Trump's election and calls for the abolition of the Electoral College.
Holder said the U.S. should elect presidents via popular vote instead of through electoral votes. The former attorney general said there is a simple solution, "we have to just abolish the electoral college."

On that account, I’m hearing now that the counting of the votes is nearing completion, including counting the military votes, that it now appears Trump has won the popular vote as well.
I have not heard of Chesterton’s Fence.
I do know who G.K. Chesterton is but am not aware of his views on the electoral college or whether you refer to some other Chesterton, a person and place, and how this fence, physical, metaphorical, or legal, relates to the electoral college.
Since I and others do not want to be as uninformed as Mr. Holder, the hero of Ruby Ridge and Waco, please share the information needed to resolve the question posed by your statement (and its assumption that this is commonly known information...)
I wonder, if there was no electoral college wouldn’t Trump have campaigned differently? Would he not have sought to mine votes even in places like California where republican turnout has to be depressed by the knowing certainty that the state is going blue under the current system?
Never fear folks, if the popular vote was the way things worked and Trump had won it (as he still might given that 7% or so of the popular vote remains uncounted) you can bet the Dems would clamour loudly for a return to the electoral college.
Kiss My Ass Eric Holder
Reforming “winner take all” would even the playing field and put the right back in the driver’s seat in this country....rather than a handful of urban centers dictating policy in this country every time the wind blows a different direction...
The County election maps pretty much say it all.
Let’s all pay as much attention to Eric Holder as he did to legitimate rule of law.
Yeah, let’s have mob rule. How about no.
So California and NY can steal the country for democrats with illegal votes.
The quotation youre looking for is from Chestertons 1929 book, The Thing, in the chapter entitled, The Drift from Domesticity:
In the matter of reforming things, as distinct from deforming them, there is one plain and simple principle; a principle which will probably be called a paradox. There exists in such a case a certain institution or law; let us say, for the sake of simplicity, a fence or gate erected across a road. The more modern type of reformer goes gaily up to it and says, I dont see the use of this; let us clear it away. To which the more intelligent type of reformer will do well to answer: If you dont see the use of it, I certainly wont let you clear it away. Go away and think. Then, when you can come back and tell me that you do see the use of it, I may allow you to destroy it.
The Founding Fathers had it right they created the electoral college so New York wouldn’t determine the presidency every time.
Besides...
1. If you take away at least the more than a million illegal aliens who voted (13% admitted they voted) about 640,000 votes for Hillary should have been nullified. Holder, you airhead, how about suggesting a better way to identify voters who are not citizens and put them in a TSA “no vote” database.
2. If all the absentee ballots were to be counted, Trump (and GWB over Gore) would have won by several hundred thousand votes (If a candidate wins outright above the total number of absentee ballots, they don’t even count those ballots). DUH.
3. Remove California from the count and Trump wins by 2.5 million votes. About the same if New York is removed. If we had popular vote, candidates could eliminate the campaign trail altogether and have their rallies in the 5 biggest cities in the USA. Both Gore and Hillary won less than 200 counties nationwide, while Trump and GWB won more than 1,300 counties.
Eric Holder, go back to south Chicago and try to do something something useful for once in your life like fighting crime and helping to reduce the murders there.
Why not just hold all elections in Los Angeles and New York City? Offer free transportation within the cities, with stops at all the liquor stores, welfare office, and abortion houses. What could go wrong?
Eric Holder: “Abolish The Electoral College”
Sure you cretin then we could have the Clinton Criminal Cartel running the country into the hole you and your Muslim buddy started.
Time to look deeply into the gun running scheme you and the bony phony began. Time og reckoning for the criminals that are leaving office now.
Eric Holder = ignorance personified
How about we just go by the number of states won?
This will keep them busy for decades. They're stupid and narcissistic, so they imagine that everybody will agree them.
They'll need to get 2/3rds of the smaller states to agree to hand over a great deal of their political influence in the country's affairs to New York and California.
They'll think it's easy. Tell them "just get a constitutional amendment and good luck"!
Me & NE with 2 or 3 districts might be easier to draw lines for than states with 10, 20 30 cDS. States would redistrict with winning EVs in mind.
I wish somebody would update the Wikipedia article on him with that info. LOL
How about no?
