The chairman of the House Tea Party Caucus and one of the first men to come out against Speaker John A. Boehner told Breitbart News that he does not think Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R.-Wis.) has the votes to keep his gavel.
I just dont think he has the votes, said Rep. Timothy A. Huelskamp (R.-Kansas), who lost his primary Aug. 2 and returns to private life after this session of Congress.
Huelskamp said he is concerned that the House Republican leadership is in a hurry to, first, get itself rubber-stamped inside the conference and then to proceed with an aggressive lame duck agenda.
Many House conservatives have called for the leadership elections to be moved forward from the scheduled Nov. 15 event, he said.
It is important to watch what the GOP leadership does before returning Ryan, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Majority Whip Steve Scalise, and Republican Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers to their posts, he said.
The conference elections are by voice vote, which masks the weakness of Ryans support with House Republicans and could be chaotic if and when he fails to reach the required 218 votes when the new Congress meets.
There is no doubt Ryan has the support of the majority of the conference, but we will not find out if he has enough until January, he said.
You got to have 218, the congressman said. Just because you have 215 doesnt get you 218.
Huelskamp said he does not know who could possibly emerge as a rival to Ryan, but that also does not matter because the House rules do not require an opponent for someone to lose; all that is required is the 218 threshold.

Adios Ryan! Enjoy your never Trump life!
It’s so obvious who Ryan belongs to because of who picked him a VP running mate...Romney...
TWO worthless individuals....
Excellent
Ryan needs to go. It will be a loud shot across McConnell’s bow that he’ll be next if he doesn’t play by President Trump’s rules.
If any of the house would like their legislation considered it would make sense to have a proper emissary in place and not a worm.
Hey, this guy is sharp !
Definitely Congressional material.
Agreed. He needs someone who is on board with him. He has work to get done!
OMG I AM PRAYING this is TRUE!!! I hate to start getting greedy with our good fortune BUT this ASSHAT will NEVER truthfully BACK Trump, he thinks he’s in charge and will STAB HIM IN THE BACK at every turn!!!
Chris Collins -NY27
1st member of House to support Trump
Can you elaborate, please?
I don’t quite understand your post.
Issa would be good!!!
To Ryan's credit, he helped Trump the most by rejecting him. That gave skeptics a green light to vote for Trump. If both sides hate him, he's their man. I know Ryan didn't mean to help, but I think he did a good thing by accident.
Allen West would be good also!!!
Ryan owes us a couple trillion dollars.
Ryan is another RINO snake. He needs to be replaced.
May be a lot of nothing.
Boehner didn’t have the votes — twice — but the conservatives lost their backbones, in typical Republican style, and backed down.
Perhaps the Trump election will cause them to show a bit more backbone. Pubbies do like to fold, however.
He’s a weasel. Never, ever trust a weasel.
Whether he deserves to go is not important at this time. Starting a leadership challenge at this point would cause a delay in Trump’s agenda. Time is at a premium at the beginning of a President’s term.
As long as he is willing to push Trumps agenda he should stay for the year. Did we learn nothing from our lessons on what happens when you overpower and remove the leaders of a a corrupt government and the chaos that can follow suit.
As long as they cooperate you secure it with their assistance while planning for their removal.
Think first then act.
He’s not getting on board. No way. This guy can’t be trusted. Get him out!
