Donald Trump's transition team is preparing for the billionaire businessman to take over as commander in chief, they're ruffling a few feathers along the way.
Scientific American reports Trump has selected climate change critic, Myron Ebell, to lead his Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) transition team.
Ebell, who's the director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the conservative Competitive Enterprise Institute, has been described by Newsweek as a fierce opponent of climate change, which the publisher calls entirely at odds with scientific consensus.
David Goldston, a policy analyst at the Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund, explained that Ebell's disbelief in climate change would utterly destroy any environmental advances made by the Obama administration:
The Competitive Enterprise [Ebell's employer] Institute has done everything it can politically and through litigation to block any forward movement on climate and to try to harass anybody who is trying to get forward movement.
Trump's controversial pick should come to no surprise, given his harsh stance on climate change:
The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive. Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 6, 2012
Give me clean, beautiful and healthy air - not the same old climate change (global warming) bullshit! I am tired of hearing this nonsense. Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 29, 2014
The backlash Trump's receiving from the left is expected, but some are taking it a step further by petitioning for Ebell to not lead the EPA transition team.
It reads, in part:
Donald Trump has chosen a leading climate skeptic to head the EPA transition. Do not let a man who denies science in the name of profit lead the nation in environmental protection.
The petition needs 100,000 signatures in order to get a response from the White House; it has a mere 1,055 so far.
Other Democrats on social media were just as upset:
Fuck, Trump picks Exxon funded climate denier, Myron Ebell, to head EPA transition https://t.co/UAtF2x1F0a Naadir Jeewa (@randomvariable) November 9, 2016
Myron Ebell, Trumps pick to lead the EPA, is a lobbyist for fossil fuel industry. Think the systems rigged? Ask whos doing the rigging. Darcy James Argue (@darcyjamesargue) November 10, 2016
So it begins. Trumps transition man for the EPA is @myronebell who is one of the biggest climate skeptics around. Good job America. Akash Patel (@ab_patel9) November 9, 2016
Senior politics editor of The Huffington Post, Sam Stein, summed up his thoughts on Trump's controversial pick:
FWIW. we have probably lost the battle against climate change tonight Sam Stein (@samsteinhp) November 9, 2016
Though Newsweek notes Ebell leading the EPA transition team doesn't mean he will definitely have a job within a Trump EPA, his position is undoubtedly a sign of what's to come.
I guess this is how he will devolve the EPA.
States get the money....
EPA split into state offices.
Never heard him say that...that sounds great!
Seriously hope this turns out to be true. As a non-climate technology scientist, this uber-politicized junk science BS is one of my major pet peeve issues with the globalists, and in general.
Ebell grew up on a 2,000 acres (810 ha) cattle ranch in Oregon. He graduated from Colorado College with a B.A. in philosophy and obtained an M.Sc. in political theory from the London School of Economics. He did graduate work in history at the University of California at San Diego and at Peterhouse College, University of Cambridge, and while in England met a girl from Albuquerque who became his wife. He had no formal scientific education, and makes no claim to be a scientist. When asked about scientific topics in interviews, he says he is "not a climate scientist. I'm just giving you the informed layman's perspective". His view is that "If science is going to be discussed in the public arena, then shouldn't people other than scientists be allowed to participate? Isn't that what a representative democracy is?
Some logic and honesty in gubm’nt?!!!
This is great news!
Just kidding. More winning is more better
Ed
Who is going to clean up the hazardous and toxic waste problem from all the lib heads exploding?
“publisher calls entirely at odds with scientific consensus”.
This from Scientific American (sigh), a publication I used to respect.
To bad they decided to go completely PC VOODO BULLSH!T NOT SCIENCE back in 1972.
Just as a matter of interest folks, the key word there was “CONSENSUS”.
Politics is a matter of consensus and agreement, NOT SCIENCE.
SCIENCE IS BASED ON REPEATABLE EXPERIMENTATION AND PROOF, NOT CONSENSUS!!!!!!!!!!
Patrick Moore was the guy I had in mind, but Bjorn Lomberg is another impressive thinker (good writer as well.) I read his “Skeptical Environmentalist” a couple of years ago and it blew me away. I hope he’ll be in touch with Team Trump!
AMEN, BROTHER!
Myron is as good a choice as could be imagined. Chuck Cushman sent me to him, and I found him to deeply knowledgeable, conservative in the sense of an “originalist”, and both erudite and yet easily understandable. As an example, he used the term ‘kleptocrat’ to describe AgencyPersons abusing both law and regulation.
I look forward to reading his decisions regarding EPA.

Well stated, FRiend.
In questions of science, the authority of a thousand is not worth the humble reasoning of a single individual.
-Galileo Galilei
Not to say Ebell is that guy, but this emphasis - nay elevation of "consensus" to the position of Determiner of Scientific Truth, is antithetical to everything I learned as a hero-worshipping scienceling.
Nope, no Nobel Prize for Mrs. Don-o.
She’s not being green enough.
To be truly green she has to capture that methane gas with a rubber bladder and use it to cook or heat her house with.
Not yet! Go Trump! Can’t wait to see what’s next. Convince Mitch to get rid of filibuster rule maybe
I want a Winning T-shirt of “Winning” raised to the power of infinity.
Oh damn, this is just too good. When have we won like this!
