The virus, and fear, took over the U.S. on Nov. 8, and this is how we ended up with Donald Trump as president-elect.
The only photograph I have with James Alan McPherson is from the beginning of the Obama era; it turned out to be far more symbolic than I could have imagined.
In the picture, Jim’s students flank him, a fairly mixed group of mostly smiling faces: three white women, two black men, a black woman, a Korean-American man, a white man. The lone white man in the workshop was named Roman, and his arm is crisscrossed with mine behind Jim’s back: my left hand perched on Jim’s left shoulder, Roman’s right hand on Jim’s right shoulder. It seemed, at the time, a picture of true American unification—black and white overlapping in an intimate embrace of the first black American to win a Pulitzer Prize for fiction.
There was, at the time we posed for that picture, a current of energy and hope that infused my perception of the world around me. The election of a black man with an African father and a nontraditional name engendered in many of us what Bomani Jones recently deemed a qualified optimism: “Just maybe if you’re so good at what you do, in spite of that contempt, people might be willing to vote for you—or, on the more local scale, to support you regardless of your background or skin color when you demonstrate talent and ability.”

The Left supports the transgressive above all else, and it defines "transgressive" as "whatever rednecks don't like." Thus, rednecks disliked Blacks, therefore the mere fact of being Black became a laudable act of iconoclastic rebellion against all that is Good and Cute and Adorable. White Fundamentalists really, really REALLY screwed the pooch by claiming that white supremacy/jim crow was mandated by G-d/the Bible. Just as Eve added to G-d's commandments in the Garden and wound up getting tricked into eating the fruit, so identification of white supremacy (which was never a part of Biblical theology of any kind, whether Orthodox/Catholic, Reformation Protestant, radical Protestant, or The Fundamentals) is something we've been paying for for generations and may yet pay for for generations to come. Pray G-d that His wrath against us be assuaged soon. Most people actually oppose creationism because "that's what racist rednecks believe" (as if Blacks were being lynched in the bad old days because they were photocopying and distributing Origin of Species!).
The Left is convinced that it is no coincidence that jim crow only ended when prayer in school and the teaching of creation was outlawed by secularists. Unfortunately, there are still bizarrely inconsistent white Fundamentalists who agree with them!
Similarly, many secular Jews define "Jewish values" by the Nazis, simply opposing everything the Nazis were for and supporting everything the Nazis were against--as if Jews hadn't been Jews for over 3000 years before there was a Nazi in the world!

It is also a sign of horrible ignorance that they can’t separate a culture they disagree with from the members. One can criticize Islam without hating Muslims, criticize feminists without hating women. But liberals want to merge the two out of intellectual laziness and the ability to march out victims as an emotional reason not to challenge their weak intellectual positions.
Um, 2/3 of the US population is white, so quit your whining.
