PAUL WHITEMAN: ALL THROUGH THE NIGHTThis recording from 1935 gives you an idea of where dance music was in the midst of the Depression: a simple fox trot. Bob Lawrence handles vocal duties.

It’s tough...I keep thinking I hear her walking around the house, and sometimes I see her out of the corner of my eye. We had a long discussion about this in the canteen last night...I guess it is a very common occurrence.
Anyway, my FRiends and neighbors have been wonderful, and i framed a pencil sketch that i did of Lynn-Dah a few months ago. It looks great up on the wall with some vintage B & W Family photos.
It’s a little chilly, but beautiful out, so I have been getting a lot of Motorcycle Riding in, before it gets too cold to ride.
It is almost time to put Blue into hibernation in my brother’s heated garage.
Then I won’t have Blue or Lynn-Dah.
But at least I will still have my beautiful guitar, named “Les”.
My Bike, my Guitar, and my Dog were the three things I brought with me from Florida.

Love in Action
November 5, 2016
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.
Philippians 2:3
Do you have a few items youd like me to wash? I asked a visitor to our home in London. His face lit up, and as his daughter walked by, he said, Get your dirty clothesAmys doing our laundry! I smiled, realizing that my offer had been extended from a few items to a few loads.
Later as I hung clothes outside on the line, a phrase from my mornings Bible reading floated through my mind: In humility value others above yourselves (Phil. 2:3). I had been reading Pauls letter to the people of Philippi, in which he exhorts them to live worthy of Christs calling through serving and being united with others. They were facing persecution, but Paul wanted them to be of one mind. He knew that their unity, birthed through their union with Christ and expressed through serving each other, would enable them to keep strong in their faith.
We might claim to love others without selfish ambition or vain conceit, but the true state of our hearts isnt revealed until we put our love into action. Though I felt tempted to grumble, I knew that as a follower of Christ, my call was to put my love for my friends into practicewith a clean heart.
May we find ways to serve our family, friends, and neighbors for Gods glory.
Read Luke 22:2227 and consider how you can pattern yourself after Jesus the servant, looking especially at the words, But I am among you as one who serves.
The gift of unity can result from serving each other.
Philippians was written by the apostle Paul to a group of Christians in the ancient city of Philippi. Paul had met many of these church members several years earlier when he visited this Roman colony in the heart of Macedonia. The church had begun with the conversion of a small group of womenincluding a wealthy Thyatiran clothing dealer named Lydiawho met to worship God on the banks of the Krenides River outside the city gates (Acts 16:1115). Now many years later Paul wrote to these friends from prison. He was unsure he would ever see them again to deliver his message in person (1:27). What was the content of this message? Stand firm; stand together; be joyful; there is hope in Christ!

Riding your motorcycle in the cold New England evenings has an honored precedent.
We tend to think that everybody in the revolutionary era knew how to ride horseback. There's a difference between hitching a horse to a wagon and controlling him from his back. John Adams, for example, hated horses and never learned how to ride. Paul Revere came to his basic horsemanship rather late in life, and once he did, he went riding every evening after closing down his silversmithy. He loved riding the back roads around Boston on horseback at high speed at night with the wind whistling through his hair. If you were walking along the road at night and somebody rode past you at high speed, it was perfectly safe to call out, "Oh, good evening, Mr. Revere!"
When the boys got together at St. Andrews Masonic Lodge to decide who would ride out and give notice that the British regulars were on the way, I have this mental image of Revere raising his hand and going, "Me! Me! Me! Me! Me!"
Unfortunately, that evening, a British patrol was out with their radar guns and pulled Paul over for speeding.
Are you looking at getting another dog?
