Bernstein: FBI Would Not Reopen Case Unless New Evidence Was "A Real Bombshell"

CARL BERNSTEIN: Well, there's no question that the e-mails have always been the greatest threat to her candidacy for president, that her conduct in regard to the e-mails is really indefensible and if there was going to be more information that came out, it was the one thing, as I said on the air last night, actually that could really perhaps affect this election.

We don't know what this means yet except that it's a real bombshell. And it is unthinkable that the Director of the FBI would take this action lightly, that he would put this letter forth to the Congress of the United States saying there is more information out there about classified e-mails and call it to the attention of congress unless it was something requiring serious investigation. So that's where we are...

Is it a certainty that we won't learn before the election? I'm not sure it's a certainty we won't learn before the election.

One thing is, it's possible that Hillary Clinton might want to on her own initiative talk to the FBI and find out what she can, and if she chooses to let the American people know what she thinks or knows is going on. People need to hear from her...

Here is my take...

Lower level agents handling the Weiner case found the evidence and told their boss the evidence is here and we are not going to hide it.

Time for a special prosecutor and a grand jury.

Bernstein is right. Comey would not do this lightly. He is trying to save the country from another Clinton impeachment and the FBI from accusations that it was aware of evidence that would lead to impeachment but did not disclose it to the electorate. As to Podesta’s demand that Comey reveal what that evidence is, Podesta knows that Comey can’t do so without jeapordizing the right of the target to a fair trial.

I’ve seen (and heard) where the libs are saying that this is only about Anthony’s weiner . . . but why would the FBI ‘reopen’ a case if that is the case.

The evidence turned up in the Weiner case and the agents unhappy that Hillary's investigation was swept under the rug player their card.

I think the scenario you presented is EXACTLY what unfolded here. The Feds probably weren't even involved in the Weiner investigation for sending those lewd messages with his child sitting next to him -- it was just an NYPD case at the time.

Here's something else to consider ...

If the NYPD turned Weiner's iPhone and/or call records over to the FBI, the FBI probably wasn't even the first ones they notified. Ten bucks says the Trump campaign knew about this before the FBI did ... and that they got the information from NYPD sources who are still well-connected with Rudy Giuliani through his private consulting practice in New York City.
