Sen. Mark Kirk questions opponent’s American heritage in Illinois debate
Washington Post ^ | 10/27/16 | Mike DeBonis

In a stunning moment during a Thursday night debate, an embattled U.S. senator cast doubt on his opponent’s military and ethnic heritage.

Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), seeking to unseat GOP Sen. Mark Kirk in Illinois, invoked her family’s military service while answering a debate question.

From what I have observed , Duckworth is an awful person who happened to have served honorably and been terribly injured in combat. Her service and sacrifice is admirable, her time in congress has been a grudge match and her wounds a hammer to wield against opponents. Once installed, she will be difficult to dislodge.

You are correct on all points. Unfortunately, Mark Kirk has also proven to be a real punchbowl floater, which - once again - gives Illinois voters a choice between crap or crud. I really hate the 17th Amendment.

That sounds like the nevertrumper strategy. Ironic given Kirk is one, but if it’s going to be a RINO or a Dem you may as well pick one and stand by your choice. I can respect a decision either way. Getting rid of a phony conservative backstabber who won’t support Trump over Hillary may be worth losing the seat for six years.

NO !!!! WE NEED TO MAKE THE (Repub) SENATE DO THEIR JOB. WE CAN SET UP A CONSTANT STREAM OF LETTERS AND PHONE CALLS TO MAKE THEM SQUIRM IN THEIR SEATS .. AND WE’LL LET THEM KNOW WE’RE WATCHING ON C-SPAN TO MAKE SURE THEY DO WHAT WE VOTED THEM TO DO. There are only 2 Senators for each State; surely we can keep track of them and let them know we’re watching.

No more of this we’ll do what we want stuff ..!!!! We’re part of the blame, because we don’t pay attention to what they’re doing, and we don’t all but harass them with phone calls and letters to make sure they get the message.

I know that means we have to baby-sit them .. but if the Dems run the Senate, they have control over the COURTS .. WE CANNOT ALLOW THAT TO HAPPEN; they will turn the Courts into ultra liberal policies - horrible to contemplate.

As for Ms. Duckworth .. PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW HER TO GET ELECTED. She is really worse than Kirk. And, remember, I have to deal with Feinstein .. and she’s not going to like it.

“Duckworth’s mother, Lamai, is Thai, but her late father, Franklin, was a Marine veteran whose family roots in this country trace to before the American Revolution. Tammy Duckworth was severely wounded in the Iraq War, losing her legs while serving as a helicopter pilot.”

Maybe undervoting sends the right message. Good suggestion.

Good for you! Send the establishment republicans a message. I early voted for Trump here in Florida and voted for a write-in candidate (Myself) for the US Senate. No way I would ever vote for 'Little Marco' the anchor baby.

>> Did you watch the debate? <<

Honestly, I have zero interest in seeing that debate.

However, listening to Kirk's comments, it was an obvious foot-in-mouth moment. Duckworth was saying she had ancestors who fought for America going back to the revolutionary war (she does, on her caucasian father's side) and Kirk made some snarky remark asking if her relatives fought for the revolutionary war from Thailand. Biggest opportunity for the Dems to scream RACIST!! since Trent Lott gave that idiotic comment that he'd vote for Strom Thurmond in '48 too, instead of saying "Look, I was 7 years old in 1948, I had no idea he was a white supremacist at the time, I was just making lighthearted remarks at an old man's 100th birthday and if you think its offensive too bad I won't apologize"

Some Kirk defender on facebook said the debate is "proof" Kirk didn't suffer any ill effects from his stroke. I guess she missed his stupid comments too.

>> I’m also sure that any freeper attacking him for it would be defending someone they like for making an identical comment. <<

Okay, valid point there. I remember when Lindsey Graham made the comment "the GOP is party of Ronald Reagan, not Ron Paul" to refute Ron Paul's Cindy Sheehan-ish comments, and freepers were ripping him apart over it. My first thought was that if those SAME words had come out of Jim DeMint's mouth in response to Paul's nutty foriegn policy, they'd give him a standing ovation for it.

>> If I thought Republicans retaining control of the Senate would make any difference I might vote for Kirk <<

I'm in the "screw Kirk" camp as well, but you do realize that saying you have ZERO support for the GOP retaining the Senate undermines the big "vote Trump for the Supreme Court" talking point? Do you really think a RAT controlled Senate would confirm "Trump's pro-life conservative nominees?" Personally, I think Kirk wouldn't confirm them either, but there are plenty of Republican incumbents in tight races that would. If they lose to RATs, you can forget about the "Supreme Court" staying conservative.

I live in Illinois and it kills me to vote for Kirk, but we have zero chance of Tammy supporting anything that Trump does, but hopefully Kirk folds like a dishrag and leaves the Never Trumpers when he sees how popular Trump is. I know it's wishful thinking, but it's all I got. 😃😃

The real problem is now the entire GOP and Trump will be painted with the same broad brush of this idiots comments/question.

There was a congress guy during the 2012 who said something equally stupid that caused who knows how many millions of women to not vote GOP.

Maybe he was told to do it by the nevertrump group to derail Trump too. Nothing would surprise me anymore. Man; that’s just plain stupid.

She voted NO to repeal Obamacare. Do you like Obamacare?
If you look at her votes I bet they will be the polar opposite of what you would have voted for.

Before you just vote for her out of spite for Kirk look at her
record and you can also just not vote for Kirk either.

You don’t have to vote for everyone one or everything just your conscience.

Owen, he was a Congressman from a wealthy, elite, liberal district in Cook County located next to Chicago...He seems to forget that he is suposed to represent the entire state! Believe me, he does not represent the will of many GOP voters...or the entire state....We Republicans held our noses to elect him in the first place and he has been a real letdown.

He often supports Obama, he is pro-choice—and now he is anti-Trump, so yeah, I am having a hard time —

Maybe I will down a bottle of wine before I go vote in order to pull the lever for Kirk...Eh may need more than just wine! Don’t worry I walk to my polling location...it is around the corner ;)

I haven’t decided whether I will vote for Duckworth or the independent candidate...I guess it will be whichever feels like the biggest “F You” to Mark Kirk at the time.

Kirk is an ass, but you are an idiot seeking to cripple President Trump in order to feel good about yourself.

You need to realize that principles have no place in the voting booth!

Only children vote on principle (it's called throwing a tantrum).

Adults understand the order of battle, hold their nose, and act accordingly.

You are a good judge of character.

At the end of the day, Kirk will join the majority. Duckworth will stand for Progress, against Trump.

Kirk is RINO d*****-bag who refused to support Trump for being “too bigoted and racist” to be president. Looks like he just hoisted himself by his own petard. Scratch a liberal and you find a racist - ALWAYS.

The majority of present day Americans are not fortunate enough to have had ancestors who fought with Washington Mr. Kirk, and personally, you are just another damn LIBERAL RINO and we are better off without you, Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and your entire cowardly pack of jackels.

Hope she beats you .

By the way, was your ancestor a member of the Conway Cabal? No? My guess is YOU would been.

Dirtball.

Beam him up Scotty.

No, he won’t. Once a dirtball, always a dirtball. If Trump is elected, the Kirks of the GOP will stand shoulder to shoulder with their NWO buddies in the DemonRat Party to block him on everything.

We are better off without these people. At least we won’t have to put up with the damn DemocRats say “But look, there are REPUBLICANS who agree with us.”. Besides, once their entrenched carcasses are removed from office, there is always the BETTER chance of replacing them with a patriotic Republican conservative.

THERE NEEDS TO BE CONSEQUENCES FOR ATTACKING THE PARTY CHOICE.

You overlook the parliamentary advantage of being in the majority, even if the Majority Leader is Mitch McConnell, RINO Kirk caucusing with the majority. It sucks, but it beats Majority Leader Schumer with Duckworth among his caucus!

Remember, the Majority Leader exerts substantial influence over the flow of legislation through the Senate. Having the Majority Leader be a Democrat is a major fail and would cripple DJT's agenda.

Therefore, a RINO always beats a 'Rat.

Impy I agree with you about the remark that Kirk made, if Trump had said it WE would have ALL been OK with it, HOWEVER it is NOT the remark it is the fact he refuses to support our candidate and yet it seems he can also make a stupid remark and WILL EXPECT us to overlook it but he can’t possibly overlook things Trump has said!!! Don’t you folks have a libertarian on the ticket for senate maybe someone along the lines of a Rand Paul??? Gary Johnson is NOT a libertarian he IS a full on LIB, however most libertarians ARE FOR small government!!!

But but but Senator Kirk YOU told us YOU could not support Donald Trump because of the racial attack YOU saw in Trump’s dealing with the judge in his Trump University case. I’m so confused Senator were you right then or are you right now?
