Before we examine the early voting numbers this year, lets take a look back at 2012 and see how the early voting results compared to the actual outcome. Four years ago, Democrats seemed to hold a substantial lead in North Carolina, with the numbers on November 4th showing Barack Obama with a clear advantage over Mitt Romney:
But this was an example where the early numbers ended up being misleading, as Mitt Romney went on to win North Carolina by two percentage points.
This is to say that while these early voting results can often be quite telling, and while many times they predict the winner of a state, they should not be treated as gospel.
Just like in 2012, at the moment, the Democrats hold a clear advantage over the Republicans in North Carolina. According to the North Carolina Board of Elections, as of October 22nd, 2.7 million Democrats have voted in North Carolina compared to 2.1 million Republicans. About 31,000 Libertarians have voted, and another two million people have voted who are not affiliated with any party.

I doubt independents are going to vote for America's Mother-in-Law.
Independents will decide the election.
A very big if.....
....meanwhile the Cankles Caboose has slipped back and is descending into the fjord that it was always pining for.
LOL
Even if the 28% increase in UNAFFILIATED are Trump voters, and the others split even, that’s nearly 600K voters going to Trump. So from above, Trump and Hillary would be 50-50 going into election day. Romney was 5 points down after early voting, and still beat Obama.
WTF? North Carolina has 100 Counties? I guess they are each about as big as a phone booth.
I grew up in Cleveland County and there’s more D’s then R’s but over the last 20 years the R’s control everything with the exception of the Sheriff’s office and register of deeds, the current NC speaker of the house is from Cleveland County
NC will go Trump.
Last time it went D was in 2008.
So there have been 6.5 million early votes in North Carolina so far when only about 4.4 million total votes were cast in 2012? Where did they all come from?
My family of 4 unaffiliated voters cast 4 votes for Trump today in nc. We are former Republicans but always conservative.
Well, the County of Robeson, where I live, is the largest county in the state of North Carolina at 951 mi.².
We have some other large counties as well.
There are no where near that many votes in NC yet
This entire article is bunk - those are registered voters. Early results look good for trump both less than 500k people have voted in total yet.
Yes I can do math too and I was thinking the same thing. North Carolina has a total population a little over 10 million people and I am supposed to believe that 6.8 million have voted? I live here. There is no way nearly 100% of all registered voters voted early.
Romney won NC in 2012, in spite of Obama’s early vote advantage.
If North Carolina doesn’t go for Trump, I blame the NCGOP because they really avoided getting behind Trump even after he won the nomination. They acted like they were going to do the ground game (I am talking the folks in charge, not the workers) but told people not to talk about Trump in the surveys early on, just ask questions about the ticket. They called me and wanted money and I told them I am not seeing any significant support for Trump on their part. Now they are trying to get behind him, but it is way too little too late. They have blamed the Trump campaign for not having a ground game like Romney did. I believe the Trump supporters (American citizens) are appreciative of a campaign that is not about corporate donors. I have never seen anything like the criticism of this candidate when it is mostly he, his family and his own money which are doing the heavy lifting. Last Saturday, South Carolina Republican women came into Charlotte to go knock on doors for Trump because they knew how apathetic Charlotte Republicans were in 2012 when they also came and knocked. I couldn’t believe these women gave up their Saturday and Sunday to come help our lazy Republicans in Charlotte win the election. A lot of these N.C. Republicans still think that they should focus on the down ballot rather than put their efforts into Trump winning the presidency. It is really pitiful. It is about the same 5-10 people putting forth effort in Charlotte. Today at early voting, there were huge numbers of Democrats voting in Charlotte. I am furious at the way this has been handled in North Carolina.
Attended a church just outside of Shelby (McBrayer Springs Pesbyterian), and wanted to move to Polkville when we were there. It’s a beautiful area.
Because of the employment situation we now live in Gettysburg PA and like it here as well...except for that winter thingy.
That wasn’t my point. This article says like 7 million people have voted, which is like every registered voter in the state
