A terrifying Russian television broadcast explicitly told civilians to find out where their nearest bomb shelter is and repeatedly asked viewers if they were ready for nuclear war.
One apocalyptic broadcast told viewers on Moscow's state-owned TV channel NTV: "If it should one day happen, every one of you should know where the nearest bomb shelter is. It’s best to find out now."

My dad freaked out and moved us over the horizon from San Antonio, about 35 miles away from the city limits into a rural area that would have little to no fallout from prevailing winds back in 77’. Everybody that was in my dads department did the same with their families.

These guys have a weird sense of imminent. This story is at least two weeks old.

One does not wage nuclear war with aircraft carriers. Missiles; land launched, submarine launched and aircraft launched is how you play global thermal nuclear war. Russia has plenty of those.
I would not discount the fire power Russia is sending to Syria, it is considerable. Ten warships including an aircraft carrier says I am serious!
FYI, anything east of the Mississippi has already been irradiated from the above ground tests. That’s why cancer is so prevalent on the east coast. Strontium will be there pretty much forever. Anyone that has had a lifetime radiation exposure maximum limit is told not to ever go there.

A couple of daze ago, I posted a story about the Russian aircraft carrier passing through the English channel. No one seemed to think it meant anything, Just saber rattling.
FReepers called it a under-powered rust bucket. I know nothing about Russia, except Putin is very clever and needs to be dealt with. Untrustworthy. I seem to be the only one concerned.
Russia actually has a doomsday bomb whether it is still operational or not is unknown.

I think they are afraid of the respective boomer commanders, who can launch on their own initiative.
