In 49 states, when you order breakfast in a restaurant you might be asked if you would like pancakes or an omelet. In Wisconsin, you are asked if you would like pancakes with your omelet. Ron Johnson would, thank you. This Republican U.S. senator, who is burning prodigious amounts of calories campaigning for a second and final term, really does represent the hearty eaters who were fueling up at a Perkins Restaurant here on a recent Sunday morning.
In 2010, Johnson left his plastics manufacturing company that made him wealthy enough to try, against his preference for the private sector and against his wifes adamant disapproval, to become the only manufacturer in the Senate. He surfed into that chamber on the Republican wave raised by two things that annoyed Johnson enough to propel him into politics the Obama administrations stimulus that did not stimulate and Obamacare, which six years later is in intensive care.
Johnson defeated a three-term incumbent, Russ Feingold, who this year is again Johnsons opponent. Being devoted environmentalists, Democrats believe in recycling even their candidates: In Indiana, too, a former senator, Evan Bayh, is in a tight race trying to return to Washington.

John Cazale was a real trooper to keep working despite the terminal cancer, just getting his scenes finished before his untimely passing.
If you read message boards, the film really divides vets, if only because of the made-up Russian Roulette stuff, but I think it still works in context in showing Nicky’s descent into madness.
The NeverTrumper has spoken.
Rather than spending my tax dollars to "stymie Clinton," I'd rather the Republican controlled Senate spend their time helping Donald Trump get his 28 point plan passed.
Every movie John Cazale was in (including clips of him in The Godfather 3) was nominated for Best Picture. Impressive.
How he did TDH while dying? Wow...
It definitely works. The role of Nicky cemented Christopher Walken’s star, for sure.
Like I’ve posted before (DeNiro’s political leanings aside), either TDH or Raging Bull is the greatest Anerican film ever, IMO.
Initially, the film company didn’t know how bad off Cazale was. The insurance folks wouldn’t back him, either (since they estimated he wouldn’t live to finish the film), but apparently DeNiro himself put up the $$ for his insurance and Meryl Streep (whom Cazale was engaged to) threatened to walk if the film company fired or replaced him. Cimino moved up to filming all of Cazale’s scenes early, so it was pretty much a group effort of getting behind him to make sure he was able to complete his work.
Just amazing. Yep...
Why does G will care if republicans hold the Senate.
He left the republican party.
Good riddance.
No one cares what you think or write.
Retire.
In some other country.
The Deer Hunter...
There is a zero% chance Ryan will lose, his rat opponent is desultory and not capable of winning even if a few people vote third party.
And if he did lose it would mean nothing, he would be replaced by another leader whom you would hate.
I can respect third party voting your conscience stuff but endorsing a slimebag who supports sucking out the brains of near full term babies when there are alternatives that don’t is morally indefensible for any reason, let alone yours.
Because, if you elect a bunch of Democrats, they won’t confirm Trump’s nominations and they’ll send him a bunch of terrible legislation. No president is going to block everything he’s sent. And whatever compromise Trump makes is going to be much better with a GOP Congress than a Democrat Congress.
The idea that you should only vote for candidates who you agree with 100% on everything is not realistic.
A good half of Wisconsin can’t stand Rusty; me included. I see about an equal amount of yard signs on both - most times one neighbor right next to the other!
Johnson is running some very positive ads that could sway some LIVs; I’m seeing very few positive ads for Rusty, and a number by Johnson slamming him and doing, ‘People on the Street’ interviews about Rusty.
Johnson has been traveling a lot and is making known his work with Joseph’s Project which helps inner-city black men
get decent paying jobs.
It’s GOT to be Rusty’s ego; he landed with a really good law firm after Johnson beat him out.
A fairly well-balance article, from The COMpost! :)
I will not vote for an Establishment Republican EVER!!
I didn’t vote for McCain for POTUS, as he would have quickly passed amnesty. I am not voting for the SOB for senate. As for Will & Rysn, I would gladly kick them both in the balls if ever given the chance
H A R D
Amen, amen and amen.
That’s a great way to give Democrats control of Congress.
If there was a rat Senate right now, Obama would appointed someone well to the left of Garner, and they would have been confirmed, I just wanted to get that out there.
The Stalinist Labor Secretary Perez comes to mind.
What about him? Party line vote in 2013.
I meant Zero putting Perez on SCOTUS. About as radical a leftist as you can get (beyond Garland).
