Asia's most powerful warship has been shrouded in mystery since construction began last year at the Jiangnan Changxing shipyards.
Known as a Type 005 destroyer, the vessel is said to be armed with electromagnetic railguns that can shoot down missiles and attack land targets.
Now, leaked images give a glimpse of the battle ship's progress - there appears to be four portals on the stern for sensors and weapons - along with up to 128 vertical launch system cells for missiles.
Construction of this 175 meter long ship began in 2015, but officials have been very careful not to reveal major details before completion.
China claims this destroyer will be the equal to the US Navy's Arleigh Burke-class destroyers that are built around the Aegis Combat System and the advanced radar scanner, SPY-1D.
Rear Admiral Yin Zhuo of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) even went so far to describe the Type 055 as a 'game changer in naval warfare.'
The ship is said to have a full displacement of over 14,000 tons and will be launching sometime in late 2017 or early 2018, reports Jeffrey Lin and P.W. Singer with Popular Science.
The leaked images come from China's Internet and distinctively show that the bow and stern areas are finished.
The bow area appears to be extremely hydrodynamic hull, endure high speeds, have stealth capabilities and is fitted with an enclosed deck.

How much ya wanna bet there were some Chinese engineers working on the newly launched U.S. stealth destroyer.
Hillary has the spec sheet.... just ask her
Clinton ####ed us in the 90s and it’s continued for 20 years.
They spend a lot of money on their military. Not what we spend, but they seem to advancing rather rapidly.
They want those island and that sea.
I head you sink one hour later you want to sink another
Why? This one looks seaworthy, unlike the DD(X)
If you watch Chinese movies, it is clear that Chinese people can fly too.
How stealth can it be if there are pictures of it?
Did popsci send them on a field trip? They were one of the first with the scoop on the atom bomb.
If the parasites elect Hillary , you either will be kneeling towards Mecca 5 times a day or speaking Chinese.
“They spend a lot of money on their military.”
They pay the solders about $50 US a month. When I was in HK the PLA garrison troops couldn’t aford to eat McDonald’s
How big an army would the US have if they paid like that?
So that means THAT MUCH more money in their budget is going towards weapons. That’s bad.
You know it’s not real, right?
That's funny right there.
Any large ship can be seen from space. Against a sophisticated enemy theirs and ours are dead meat. They are formidable weapons in a non nuclear war. In an all out war they all die within hours. They can launch their weapons if used quickly. They can launch their aircraft if used quickly. The aircraft will have no place to land. The ship will be a smoking ruin or at the bottom of the sea when they return. All out war is quick and deadly.
Why is it you guys that believe this never say the same thing about the Army? Their tanks, etc., and Air Force bases. If these formidable sophisticated weapons you are talking about are so great surely they can do the same to things on the ground. They only work for objects on the water?
With the interest payments we make to the Chinese on the money we owe them they easily can afford all kinds of neat military armaments and than some.
$50 US a month in China is big money to folks in the rural areas plus it leads to advancement in many other areas later, ie better civilian jobs with far higher pay.
Also while they spend less than we do on military, they get more bang for the buck, and have the ‘luxury’ of the west doing most of the R&D for them - particularly in materials science. They also graduate far more engineers than we do.
