Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake told reporters that Senate Republicans should take up the nomination of Judge Merrick Garland to succeed the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia on the U.S. Supreme Court.

That fits the pattern. When the GOP goes more conservative in an election, they suddenly must tie the hands of the next Congress with a CrOmnimus bill.
If Obama simply declares he will remain on as President, for whatever reason, look for Flake to cheerlead it.
