Nixon made a terrible precedent setting mistake, in not filing a Court challenge to the “miracle” in 1960, whereby the Democrats came up with 25k Kennedy votes, on the day after the election, to save Illinois for Kennedy. That strange happening should have been challenged, and thoroughly investigated. Honest elections should not be sacrificed in order for those victimized to prove they are good sports!

Very good point. I didn’t know the 25K appeared the day after election. Seems like I missing something important in history class.

Same thing happened in Texas too. They burned the ballots so they could not be recounted.

Yes, looking back it was a huge mistake. I guess he couldn’t have known how the Democrat party would degenerate so far into evil.

Nixon did not seek to be a "good sport." In 1960 the Cold War world was tense, with Soviets and Chinese Communists on the offensive, nuclear tipped missiles being aimed at the country, the possibility of war in Europe being considered real, not hypothetical. Nixon made the judgment that at that time a Constitutional crisis would threaten the stability of US standing in foreign affairs, with possibly disastrous results.

Nixon was guaranteed the presidency in 1968 if he’s go along with the fraud. He knew the same fraud could be used to get him elected. And why do you think LBJ didn’t run in ‘68? He wasn’t supposed to be president anyway so he was happy with 5 years.
