Yes, I was sitting in an office watching the news tapes on the election returns from the day before. With the Illinois count from downstate virtually complete, Nixon—who had been trailing in the State all evening and through the night, but slowly gaining as the Conservative areas were counted to offset the Chicago results, gradually forged into the lead. Then with the count about complete, a solid block of 25,000 Kennedy votes were discovered in Chicago, and Kennedy captured the State.
