HOW BIG IS ONE?

As a man walked a desolate beach one cold, gray morning he began to see another figure, far in the distance. Slowly the two approached each other, and he could make out a local native who kept leaning down, picking something up and throwing it out into the water. Time and again he hurled things into the ocean.

As the distance between them continued to narrow, the man could see that the native was picking up starfish that had been washed upon the beach and, one at a time, was throwing them back into the water.

Puzzled, the man approached the native and asked what he was doing. "I'm throwing these starfish back into the ocean. You see, it's low tide right now and all of these starfish have been washed up onto the shore. If I don't throw them back into the sea, they'll die up here from lack of oxygen."

"But there must be thousands of starfish on this beach," the man replied. "You can't possibly get to all of them. There are just too many. And this same thing is probably happening on hundreds of beaches all up and down this coast. Can't you see that you can't possibly make a difference?"

The local native smiled, bent down and picked up another starfish, and as he threw it back into the sea he replied, "Made a difference to that one!"

Each of us is but one person: limited, burdened with our own cares and responsibilities. We may feel there is so much to be done, and we have so little to give. We're usually short of everything, especially time and money. When we leave this shore, there will still be millions of starfish stranded on the beach. Maybe we can't change the whole world, but there isn't one of us who can't help change one person's whole world. One at a time. We can make a difference.

One at a time. We can make a difference.

Howdy do, Conor! *HUGZ*

Sorry to hear your knee’s not behaving and is holding you back on planting. Hope you’ll be up to getting out tomorrow for some dirt time.

How about a kitten for Lynn-Dah? Her very own? Any better reception?

Or mousetraps and peanut butter? Or d-con?

Glad you and Blue got out yesterday and you got to bicycle today.

Howdy, Kathy.

Your weekend going smoothly? Able to work on any projects to get them out of the way?

They are quite intelligent mice. They seem to be able to avoid the traps I set out. I haven’t tried peanut butter, though.

In the meantime, I will be going to Maine for a few days, and will put some other more “interesting and enticing” traps. they seem to get bolder when we are away.

Lynn-Dah is coming with me...a six hour drive, but I make sure she is comfortable.

I would be really afraid to introduce a kitten into the home. Lynn-Dah can be a very jealous...female dog.

Well howdy, PRO!

Bummer you’re still feeling punky from that crud. It needs to let go so you can feel spunky again.

Was wind the reason your power went out? I saw something on the tube last night about high winds up in that area. Didn’t sound fun.

It was a little warm today - mid-80s - and sunny. Great weather for the cruise-in but we really, really, really need rain. MAYBE next weekend.

Oh, you showed Baby, huh? Local car show?

It's windy all over Washington and Oregon due to a pacific storm coming our way. I'm one of those right-wing preppers so I was ready for the worst :-)

Yes, broke Baby out of the garage for a couple of hours. It was a local cruise-in, part of a little annual festival in our county seat.
There’s another cruise-in at the town just to our north next Sat. but that’s when they say we have a good chance for rain. Much as I’d like to break Baby out again, the rain is preferred. We haven’t had any rain for 4 weeks now.

That’s what they were saying last night about the weather up there - - big storm pushing in and lots of wind with it. IIRC, they said somewhere got winds just over 100 mph!
Good thing you’re prepared for situations like that. Makes the wait for the power to come back on a lot easier. At least it wasn’t out too long ...... this time.

The real high winds were battering the coastal areas. We only had gusts around 40mph, but enough to cut power for awhile. It’s calm tonight, hope it stays that way.

They had a list of several cities with their wind speeds but I didn’t get a close look. Didn’t know if all were along the coast or if any were inland. Glad it wasn’t as wild where you are but it was obviously wild enough to cause problems.
Looking at the radar, that’s a big system rolling in, and it’s moving pretty fast. Hope the winds don’t crank up again in your area.

I did a few things around here...not THAT much...and it was more fun than getting dressed up and smiling at customers I don’t even like. LOL!

Hope you had a good day too! Have y’all gotten any rain? Is it cool there. I think it was 90 or so here today. Darn it!
