Psychologists understand the strength of what they call The Backfire Effect. It explains the phenomena of people closing their ears to refutations of their positions. An article that discusses this subject acknowledges the difficulties and discomfort that comes with changing our beliefs.
We respond by, paying less attention to information that contradicts our present convictions and more to that which confirms them.
Once something [like the intention to vote or vote for a candidate of the Party you have always voted against] is added to your collection of beliefs, you protect it from harm. You do this instinctively and unconsciously when confronted with attitude-inconsistent information.

Another way of thinking about The Backfire Effect is called, Confirmation bias, which is also called confirmatory bias or myside bias,[and] is the tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that confirms one's preexisting beliefs or hypotheses, while giving disproportionately less consideration to alternative possibilities.

The fact is that both of these features of human personalities favor Donald Trumps candidacy. In the first place The Backfire Effect helps explain why Trump has likely lost no appreciable portion of his supporters in spite of the real and manufactured charges against him.
For many Trump supporters joining his side has required a leap of faith. Some have had to jump a large distance. They have jumped from not voting ever; they have jumped to re-entering the voter pool after a long absence; or they have jumped to even changing Parties to stand with Trump.
These people love Trump and his ideas precisely because he is not "THEM" - the people they despise. They will not let anything bad about their hero sway them from supporting him, even when it is presented on a video.
Verbal unconfirmed attacks that have no authenticity will fade like snow in August and have no chance of changing Trump supporters'minds.
On the other hand many of Hillary Clintons supporters are predisposed to accept that she is of low character and likely is a criminal; but they dont care either.
While these facts would seem to have no effect on either side, that is exactly the problem for Hillary Clinton; because of the 11 point edge in the enthusiasm of his supporters Trump enjoys.
The last Fox poll showed Trumps supporters more enthusiastic then Clinton supporters by a rate of 70/57.
These enthusiasm numbers put the Clinton campaign in a big hole. They have about three weeks to pull Trump down and lift Clinton up. Even to pull even that would require changing the minds of one of every 12 likely voters.
Forget it; the advantage goes to Trump in a big way.
Let both sides dig in their heels, thats fine with me.

If Trump goes to the debate next week and shouts out the DIRTY TRICKS, it will backfire on these scumbags
Uhmmmmm....Not at all. I do it based on careful thought and analysis while quite conscious, thank you.
After four decades of this sh** the public is weary of their crying wolf.
At this point Trump needs to be Trump. The Democrats have pulled out all the stops. Trump needs to stay strong, and determined, but keep his voice low and calm. His last debate performance had the perfect tone.
Another word for it is “blowback”
I thought his speech today was very good.
“Tricky Hillary” may be just about as effective as “Crooked Hillary”, as it implies a factor of sly mischief, in addition to outright flouting of the law and good manners.
And why this insistence that the Russians are releasing all these hacked John Podesta e-mails? That could be coming from any of a number of purely domestic agencies or entities, or other international players, and not the Russians at all.
We’ve waited for decades for a candidate to take them on, talk back and beat them over the head with their own tactics.
He’s here and we’re going to vote for him.
We had that in Maine with the LePage reelection - the Dems were virtue shaming him, demanding he apologize, demanding every Republican condemn him, and he stayed the course - and ended up getting more votes for Governor than anyone in Maine history.
It really doesn’t matter if the Russians released the e-mails...it wouldn’t matter if the Albanians or the Norwegians released them...
What matters is who WROTE them and to who and what they said...
Correction: I meant hacked, not released...
Or it is simply because Trump doesn’t pansy out when the going gets tough like McCain, followed by Romney, did.
I think we have crossed over into a reverse reward system. The attacks are obviously fraudulent, dishonest, and hypocrisy of the highest order. People hate bullshit.
Ergo, the attacks make him stronger now instead of hurting him. They are attacking him right into the presidency.
used to call it backlash...
What would worry me is if and when they STOP attacking Trump.....
So far they are nothing but hyenas out on a dark savannah night.
THIS IS THE ONE WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR. This is the man for this time. The Clintons and the MFM rain barbs, arrows, and fire upon him. Allow them to continue to do so. He will still be standing, advancing. What better way for AMERICA to truly see a MIRACLE than to witness such an event.
Lord know, we need a miracle and have needed one for many years.
TRUMP WILL TRIUMPH
Russia is being used as a bogey man.. they have no idea who did it. It’s not Russia
