Pompeii was an ancient Roman city near modern-day Naples in Italy, which was wiped out and buried under 6 meters of ash and pumice following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. It is an eerie feeling to walk the empty streets of Pompeii and to view shops and homes left virtually untouched for nearly two millennia. One home still contains a complete loaf of bread sitting in the oven, perfectly preserved by a coating of ash. Now everyone has the opportunity to walk the streets and peer inside homes thanks to a detailed 3D digital reconstruction of an entire Pompeian city-block.

Visit Herculaneum also.
sad when she got to the part where she showed the walls.. and said the tile pictures had been removed from the walls and taken to museums...
Thank you. Interesting...
Wow.
One thought that kept returning to me was: How much ash and CO2, and other things did that release into the atmosphere, and how would the global warming nazis say we should combat that?
Very cool.
Thanks for posting. I enjoyed this documentary:

I was there in 97 and again in 05 - you’ll love it. Go to Herculaneum as well!
That was a great documentary as well. I’ve become kind of obsessed with Pompeii over the last year. I spent days watching literally anything about Pompeii on YouTube.
We’re staying in Sorrento, and plan to see the whole of the Amalfi Coast and Capri. We are looking for a good private driver to take us on the tours, I think that’s the way to go, instead of the usual canned tours.
Have a good time. It’s amazing.
Wouldn’t the bread be toast?
What’s scary is that Vesuvius is expected to blow again, and they say it’s around every 2000 years, well, the the last one was in 79 AD. And just look at how many people live in Naples and the surrounding areas today.
Very good on obsession. I enjoy Pompeii stuff, too. I haven’t seen a whole lot on it or know a bunch about it, but I do find it very interesting. That documentary from the BBC kind of mesmerized me.
Yes, learned that in the documentary, too. Very scary what the Earth can do when it wants.
Hmm. This video kind of debunks the theory that people were going about an ordinary day when they died? It looks like they had plenty of warning with the quakes and then the effluence from Vesuvius.
I always thought the devastation was pretty much instantaneous.
We are tiny little specks about the size of Mickey Rooney, as the Animaniacs would sing.
I would consider trip insurance!
