Poll: Catholics Support Hillary Clinton, Gay Marriage
National Catholic Review ^ | Aug 25 2016 | Michael O'Loughlin

Posted on 10/08/2016 5:02:00 AM PDT by daniel1212

More than half of all U.S. Catholics (52 percent) would cast a vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton if the election were held today, compared to just 32 percent for Republican Donald J. Trump...

More than three in four (76 percent) non-white and Hispanic Catholics would pick Clinton, with 13 percent choosing Trump.

Among white non-Hispanic Catholics, Clinton holds a much smaller lead, 44 percent to 41 percent....

Six in 10 (62 percent) white evangelicals say they would vote for Trump today, while 47 percent of white mainline Protestants pick Trump.

That comes from a new survey by the Public Religion Research Institute, whose findings mirror a similar poll conducted earlier this summer by the Pew Research Center.

Trump’s trouble with Catholic voters was foreshadowed during the primary season, when a group of reliably conservative Catholics urged their fellow believers in the Republican Party to resist Trump, even after he had all but sewn up the nomination.

Those concerns were renewed this week when The Hill reported on comments made by the newly tapped C.E.O of the Trump campaign, Stephen Bannon. The former head of the conservative website Breitbart News had accused the Catholic Church of supporting immigration reform only to boost its own membership.

“I understand why Catholics want as many Hispanics in this country as possible, because the church is dying in this country, right? If it was not for the Hispanics,” he said in March during a radio interview with Princeton University Professor Robert George..

Nearly seven in 10 (68 percent) of U.S. Catholics say they support same-sex marriage, up from just 35 percent in 2003. At the same time, Catholics are about split when asked if support for same-sex marriage goes against their religious beliefs (45 percent say that it does)... of the Catholic “Never Trump” movement.

About six in 10 Catholics (63 percent) say businesses should not be allowed to refuse services to gays and lesbians based on religious objections.

When it comes to how friendly religious institutions are to L.G.B.T. people, Catholics think better of their church than the American public does. Almost half of all Americans consider the Catholic Church to be “somewhat or very unfriendly” to L.G.B.T. people, with 35 percent seeing the Catholic Church as friendly.

The numbers are switched for Catholics, with 49 percent saying the church is friendly and 45 percent who say it is not.

While U.S. bishops have made fighting same-sex marriage a priority for several years, just 37 percent of Catholics report hearing the issue discussed by their priest in the past few months.

Well yeah, we know from 1 John that the spirit of antichrist was already at work in the first century. Saying nothing about the novel doctrines and the rejection of actual biblical doctrines, the age and size of your organization ought to give you great pause.

I take comfort in the continuity of their doctrine, and the way that large organization is targeted by secular authorities today.

Don’t know as I’ve noted I’m not Protestant. However Catholicism is the one wrestling with itself, after Vatican 2.

The lack of a centralized hierarchy in the Protestant churches is the probably the primary reason they basically became state religions; they shifted as popular cultures did. There is no biblical excuse for female clergy, for example; Jesus Christ certainly wasn’t sexist, yet he chose only male apostles (and bestowed certain powers/responsibilities on them). There certainly is no biblical justification for normalization of homosexual relations, either.

There are biblical injunctions against bowing down to idols yet Catholics bow down before idols of Mary.

These people are unable to vote any other way. They cannot connect the dots to see how self destructive they are by standing with corruption, the culture of death, and the demise of the USA into a third world cesspool.

I can't help but think it really started down that path, ironically, with Bill Clinton and how enough people cared more about the economy (their own pocketbooks) than they did the "character thing" to elect him and then reelect him.

Continuity of doctrine. LOL. There is little continuity, but never mind that, I’m not going waste time arguing history with you. For the sake of argument I’ll assume there has been doctrinal contuiity, even so, continuity doesn’t prove truth. Truth can only be measured by the Scriptures. Please become a Berean and compare what the Word of a God says to the doctrine and practices of your church.

May the Lord bless you.

Here’s the testimony of a former priest from Ireland.

I can’t follow his whole rant, but as I understand it the happenings at Fatima were witnessed by thousands of people (many of who were skeptics) and they came away shaken, terrified...and believing.

Don’t move the goalposts.

Your comment was about ANY Protestant denomination.

Now you’re fine tuning it to *major* Protestant denominations.

I don’t doubt something happened, but that doesn’t mean it was of God. Men can be easily fooled. It is wise to test the spirits by the Word of God. If you read Genesis carefully, in the Garden Eve believed what she saw was good. She made the tragic mistake of trusting what she thought she saw over God’s Word.

“So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.” - Genesis 3:6

See # 181; the Catholic and Orthodox churches are the last ones that can trace the faith back 2,000 years.

So what?

Longevity does not make right.

And *the faith* doesn't save anyone. Jesus saves people and placing your faith in HIM.

If someone is putting their faith in *the faith* or a religious system or church or denomination, then they are doomed and going to hell.

Which do you have in mind? How many Protestant denominations are there (that are truly separate from those founded centuries ago during the reformation)? I don’t consider Al Sharpton a “protestant”; he is just some guy playing “reverend”.

You sound like the History Channel trying to make the case Sodom & Gomorrah were destroyed by a meteor (to destigmatize homosexuality while undermining the Old Testament); the display in the sky at Fatima happened when thousands of people (again, including many skeptics) had gathered to see whether or not it was a hoax.

2 Corinthians 11:14-15 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.

Longevity certainly makes a case better than following an English king playing pope or a misguided German priest who adapts his faith to convince himself he is saved.

sorry; i didn’t post anything pro-Catholic nor anti-Christian- this is just another one of your desperate posts...

Spare us the obvious denial. To deny what is abundantly substantiated about Catholicism is unjustified proCatholic vanity, and which is anti-Christian.

i simply noted with evidence that took 30 sec to find, you were relying on left wing sources for your data...you really are hitting rock bottom...

Wrong again, for once again, the premise behind this argument that the findings of these sources are to be dismissed is because they are liberal, which is a genetic fallacy, but since survey after survey by researcher org after research org all testify to Catholics supporting liberals as per the one of my OP, against which you provided zero evidence, then you simply have no case. You can relegate them all as being part of a vast left-wing conspiracy, yet paradoxically pro-evangelical, but which makes you look even more desperate and foolish.

What did the Devil gain via Fatima? It led many people to return to God who had been led astray, and to this day is an inspiration to those seeking God (not the Devil).
