A 10-year-old special-needs boy was on life support after bullies allegedly lured him to a field, doused him with gasoline, and lit him on fire on Sunday.

Kayden Culp of Kerrville, Texas, has burns on 20 percent of his body from his ears to his belly button, and his organs are failing, according to a YouCaring page set up by the boy

Boys being boys with gasoline, it sounds like. I remember I regrew my eyebrows once. My dad caught their garage afire when he was a kid. This was a bad one - backflash, can on fire, flaming hot can got quickly tossed, hit another boy.

I gave up television a few years ago. I watch DVDs of some tv shows I like now and then. Call me whatever, but I have nearly always avoided R-rated movies. You won't find any in my DVD collection.

When I visit other people, and they have television on, I am often shocked to the point of revulsion at the level of violence and language in current television shows (never mind movies). Being away from TV for years and then seeing it again is reveals just how desensitized one can become to it.

There is a lot of sickness in our popular culture, and it can't be good for kids.

Maybe the kids have connected parents or belong to a favored demographic.

It’s a different take because it omits how the fire started in the first place, and whether or not it was the kids who threw the gas who called the fire department or some third party that just happened to see the fire from a distance.

For all anyone can tell the boys left the burned one to die and hid.

Hopefully it was just a case of horrible stupidity and they ran to get help rather than thinking of themselves.

Why is one being charged with arson if it was boys being boys? First the cops say it was an unintended accident and the next a kid is indicted. I think we need more info on this story.

My bro has an 85 acre farm in the North Country (NYS).

Years ago....Burning some brush....whoops.....turned into a biiiiiiiig fire. Local firefighters not too happy with my bro. And bro wasn't a kid at the time....maybe 30-35....

Today my bro turned 60....still living on the farm.

I don’t care if they are 9, 10 and 11. Send them to Texas!

Even something reasonably interesting, like the series Penny Dreadful can have lurid content. It's set in Victorian Era london, but every so often, you'd have a woman lifting up her petticoat to bang some alpha male like an animal.

We have a vast collection of dvds - only classic American movies, foreign films and mostly British comedies and dramas. Very few are R-rated unless they are absolute classics of motion picture history. I watch the Food Network and Fox & Friends...and that is it. A friend of mine in England, who is a member of BAFTA, continually writes about the hideous violence in modern movies - and she is mostly watching well-received independents. Satan army is certainly on the march and doing well.

The previous owner of my house set a brush fire accidentally on purpose too...

When the firemen put it out they asked him if he had any idea who started it. With a straight face he said “vandals?”

But he was one of those natural born joker types of guy who gets away with that kind of stuff...

(snip) At a news conference, officials said the shed was already on fire when a juvenile male poured gasoline onto the fire, causing a flash fire that burned Kayden.

“Which in turn resulted in a backflash to ignite the container and the contents of that accelerant, which were then discarded by that individual, which inadvertently, according to everything that we’ve developed, struck this child,” Police Chief David Knight said. (snip)

Read the article in the local news, post #5. Unlike the Post headline, this doesn't sound malicious. Just kids being exceptionally stupid.

Kerrville Fire Chief: Fire that severely burned boy not premeditated

KERRVILLE, Texas - Updated Thursday at 1:25 p.m.:

Kerrville fire and police officials said the fire that left Kayden Culp, 10, with second- and third-degree burns doesn’t appear to be premeditated.

Boy in coma after sustaining burns; mother says other boys did it intentionally

At a news conference, officials said the shed was already on fire when a juvenile male poured gasoline onto the fire, causing a flash fire that burned Kayden.

“Which in turn resulted in a backflash to ignite the container and the contents of that accelerant, which were then discarded by that individual, which inadvertently, according to everything that we’ve developed, struck this child,” Police Chief David Knight said.

He said four boys, who knew each other, were in the shed when the fire erupted.

“No one was coerced to be there,” Knight said.

After the news conference, an unidentified female family member of the juvenile arrested said the fire was an accident.

“We know that these kids, like I said before, are all friends,” she said. “He didn’t deliberately do this and go over there and throw this gasoline on top of him. You guys heard what they said in there (news conference). They were messing with it (gasoline), so somebody went this way, and it splashed everywhere.” ...”

OK, now because of their ages they can hold them until they’re 18.......sometime that’s all the punishment these little violent pricks get. I’ll sign a petition, I’ll go to Austin, I’ll make as much noise as I can if there’s the slightest possibility that could happen in this case. These, ahem, KIDS (?) are of no use to society now or for the rest of their miserable lives. They should NEVER see the outside world......NEVER again!!!
