Hurricane Matthew Live Thread II
NOAA/NHC ^ | October 6 2016 | NOAA/NHC

Hurricane Matthew is big, bad and just downright scary, with iminent and sustained impacts to U.S. mainland. Florida Governor Rick Scott issued a state of emergency for all of Florida and disaster operations are activated. More than 1.5 million Floridians reside in current evacuation zones. Governor Scott has spoken with utilities across the state to ensure utilities are pre-positioned and there are no unmet needs. Multiple coastal hospitals have been evacuated. Meanwhile, feckless President Barack Hussein Obama is personally monitoring the progress of the storm.

Tropical Storms early on have bands of rain and dry winds. the Camera itself would be soaked and then rain free.

Why you want to discuss getting whacked by sand in a hurricane is beyond me.

IF...these are small diameter (tornadic) circulations, and IF they extend to sea level (around 7070' ASL on the 1.5 degree scan), and IF they hold together, they will come ashore between Sebastian and Melbourne.

It looks like it is moving past you. Keep an eye on it. Wednesday of next week you may get to buy pizza instead of water.

GodBless

You brought it back up. I merely replied. My apologies if that was somehow not the appropriate thing to do.

I just remember harsh winds and when it is sand as your surface, watch out.

I came across an ad on the Hilton Head tidal chart page link you provided, never seen anything like it, have water jet hover boards become a thing while I wasn’t paying attention? Didn’t see them last time I was out on OBX.

It looks slightly more controlled than grabbing a firehose at full blast, lol.

One of these times, we are going to witness some poor reporter having their head cut off due to flying debris. A piece of sheet metal is going to home in on one of them and it won’t be pretty. Having said that’ll, I like having them out there doing the job.

I received a call from my power company, Duke Progress Energy, tonight saying there may be power outages here from Matthew. I am in the Raleigh, NC (central-Eastern section of NC) area. The call gave me a phone number for calling if I experience a power outage. I was surprised because our highest winds are supposed to be about 30-40 MPH at the most and then we are supposed to get about 4 inches of rain in our area based on the Euro model. Down East has a flash flood advisory up but not my county.

I guess they are just being cautious.

Thank you for your service as a backup power guy.

See my post 913 - got a call from Duke Progress Energy tonight about possible power outages in my area (central NC). I was surprised. I can understand such a prospect for down near the coast but not up here.

We have a few folks that specialize in power.

Raleigh, Fayetteville, Charlotte.

We can help with Duke to get things right.

A lot of pines in and around the Raleigh area. Soft wood, shallow roots. Just an abundance of caution, they remember what Fran did. Imagine countless bombs going off in pine forests, it was an impenetrable mass of downed pines for weeks.
