Hurricane Matthew Live Thread II
NOAA/NHC ^ | October 6 2016 | NOAA/NHC

Hurricane Matthew is big, bad and just downright scary, with iminent and sustained impacts to U.S. mainland. Florida Governor Rick Scott issued a state of emergency for all of Florida and disaster operations are activated. More than 1.5 million Floridians reside in current evacuation zones. Governor Scott has spoken with utilities across the state to ensure utilities are pre-positioned and there are no unmet needs. Multiple coastal hospitals have been evacuated. Meanwhile, feckless President Barack Hussein Obama is personally monitoring the progress of the storm.

The logistics might be too much but Raymond James Stadium (in Tampa) might be a good back-up location.

The Florida Gulf Coast is supposed to get away pretty unscathed.

They are deciding by 1pm today. Could be played Monday or most likely tacked on to end of season.

It's just going to delay the inevitable drubbing LSU is going to give us.

We’ve started getting rain bands up in Polk County. We’re also under a Tropical Storm Warning. Light breeze so far. Expecting the worst around 3 a.m. Couple more things to do outside and I guess we’re as ready a can be.

They should be ok......though their county beach area is under mandatory evacuation.....he's telling me this is a new Mayor doing what a new Mayor does in his county.....same for the Gov. Scott....none are taking any chances since they're new on the stage of this potential storm. They're closer to the river than they are the ocean.

Well, if you don’t have a passing game.

Then again - yeah - it might be perfect.

I hope your family is OK. The storm surge will push the river up too. I hope they are high enough.

We had a house on Galveston Bay. The houses were all built up on stilts. The old ones were 12 feet, the newer homes were 16 feet up.

We’re in Fort Lauderdale on a canal off the Intracoastal. We came down for a few days as our boat was brought down from MA. My husband has been a wreck as keeping the boat in our canal seemed like a recipe for disaster. Fortunately, we were able to get a slip well inland on the New a River. Praying all will be safe.

I experienced 100 mph straight line winds in a Texas thunderstorm.

There's no comparison between a straight line wind that lasts a few seconds and sustained winds between 75 and 100 that last for hours. I've experienced both and there is NO comparison.
