This just coming over the wire. A New Jersey Transit train crashed into a wall after entering the station in Hoboken around 8:30 a.m. It is unclear from earliest reports whether the train jumped the track, but according to live televised coverage by New York City Fox affiliate WNYW the roof over the passenger waiting area collapsed, resulting in serious injuries. The exact number and nature of those injuries have yet to be reported.
According to eyewitnesses, the train failed to slow down as it entered the station. One on-scene observer who witnessed the crash was WFAN anchor John Minko. he told reporters with CBS New York:
It simply did not stop. It went right through the barriers and into the reception area.
CBS further reports that images from the scene reveal “mangled metal, wires and debris scattered all over the floor.” A video posted by another individual who was present reveals the extent of the structural damage.

Right place, right time. But I’m personally betting it was caused by a conductor who just made it to the next level of Candy Crush on his/her iphone.
Operator error?
Seems a lot of train accidents that are getting folks killed seem to be operator error.

I’ve been riding those trains for over 30 years without incident (accept for delays).
11am WMAL Radio News reporting 1 killed and over 100 injured.
Does anyone know the name of the conductor yet? Almost 2 hours now and no name.
As a practical matter, this should be investigated as a crime scene until there is enough evidence as to determine if this is an accident or not.
If it is, fine, the NTSB conducts the investigation. we get a report in about 18 months or so.
If evidence indicates it is a terrorist attack, then the FBI and intelligence community take the lead.
Unfortunately this will play into the election, one hopes that the investigation is straight forward. However given recent history, there will be a lot of pressure by the administration to frame this within a “narrative” as opposed letting the investigation play out before coming to a conclusion.
It is frankly sad that that thought is what comes to mind.
This is only about 3 stops down the line from Elizabeth. This is one of the most heavily-traficked commuter rails in the entire country - taking office workers by the thousands into NYC every single day.

Those trains slow down so much over the last couple miles coming into that station because of curves and switches. If this train was going fast enough to do this kind of damage it would have derailed earlier or have had to accelerate at the last minute.
I really don’t think it was negligence or an accident. I do believe it would have been intentional.
(I could be wrong, I have been before, plenty of times.)

The media is looking for a way to blame the crash on Chris Christie or Donald Trump.
