A United Nations-affiliated group in Geneva is calling for the U.S. to give African Americans reparations for the countrys history of slavery, according to a recent report by the group.
The groups statement was part of a study by the United Nations Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent, a group that reports to the international organizations High Commissioner on Human Rights.
The group of experts, made up of leading human rights lawyers from around the world, presented its findings about the link between the U.S.s history of slavery and present injustices, such as the recent police shootings of African Americans.
In particular, the legacy of colonial history, enslavement, racial subordination and segregation, racial terrorism and racial inequality in the United States remains a serious challenge, as there has been no real commitment to reparations and to truth and reconciliation for people of African descent, the report stated. Contemporary police killings and the trauma that they create are reminiscent of the past racial terror of lynching.
The panel said that police shootings of African Americans during the past year have caused a human rights crisis that is in urgent need of addressing and compared recent shootings to acts of lynchings in the late 1800s.
The group said the reparations could come in a variety of forms, such as a formal apology, health initiatives, educational opportunities, psychological rehabilitation, technology transfer and financial support, and debt cancellation.
Ricardo A. Sunga, one of the panel members who was asked about the presidential race in the United States, talked about hate speech xenophobia (and) Afrophobia prevalent in the race, but did not call out any candidates by name.
The reparations, however, are unlikely to occur since the groups recommendations are non-binding and unlikely to influence policy in the United States.

Can’t we keep a few of them...the GOOD ones ?
Uh, transportation costs and room and board for being rescued from the dark continent.
I would be for reparations if everyone who took it would be required to move to Africa and never return.
Same old whining.
Gibsmedat! Gibsmedat! Gibsmedat!
I am so sick of hearing the lazy takers.
Get the filthy rich NFL and NBA bros to share with you.
I do not owe anybody any “reparations” for anything!
I have never owned a slave.
My family has never owned slaves.
Go dig up the dead slave owners and make them pay.
The stage is being set for UN Secretary Obama’s global tax that will be payed for by hard working Americans.
The middle classe will disappear.
give them reparations in Confederate money....
All funds and expenses that the USA would allocate to the UN (including climate change) could be used for job training for the unemployed.
Time for us to tell the UN to pound sand and FUUN...
“Lets see the arab slave masters pay. Or... How about the African tribal chiefs that captured and sold Africans in to slavery?”
Yep. When the UN collects all the money from Arabia and Africa and Europe for reparations to U.S. Afro’s, let us know. Then, we’ll collect the costs for our Civil War and decades of black welfare and affirmative action from it, and see what’s left.
My ancestors were northerners who did not own slaves and were strong abolitionists. Plus, I had a great, great uncle who died for the Union in the Battle of Plain Store in May of 1863.
So, too bad for the rest of you, ‘cause I’m off the hook!
...right?
Molone Lave, you blue helmeted surrender monkeys. You cross that ocean, you will die unknown and unheralded in the vastness of the United States.
And we still won’t pay reparations. My family paid in blood and that’s all they get.
Right! As do the Saxons from the Normans, the Chinese from the Mongols, the Greeks from the Persians, the Jews from the Germans/Romans/Russians, the Armenians from the Turks...this is about the silliest damn thing that ever came from the UN. And that’s saying something.
The US accounted for 3% of the Slave trade. 97% went to the Caribbean and to South America.
So, the one nation that abolished slavery 150 years ago have to pay reparations, while nations that still practice slavery today don’t have to.>>> britain, which is responsible for our slave system, abolished the slave trade in 1807 thx to wilberforce, after we were a nation. we had the counting of slaves embedded in our constitution. worst part of our constitution that gives cause to many people ignore and try to re-write it.
An “inconvenient truth.”
My great grandfather fought for the Union in the Civil War that ended slavery so I’m paid up
Thank you!
Still, they have exported so much of their population and are so dysfunctional, the United Nations needs to move to Mogadishu and set up a model multicultural country for all the refugees in the world to move to. They may even assign China a mandate to manage it for all I care.
