AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) If anything, the 2016 presidential election has been divisive, for the candidates and for voters.
And so, when several Donald Trump campaign signs went missing from Charlie Tulumellos front yard, he assumed it was just neighborhood kids playing a prank.
Never did he think the thief was a former administrator at a local college, and a PhD in his 60s.
After the thief struck twice, Tulumello decided to place a pair of trail cameras on trees in his front yard to catch any overnight action.
Three times, a man and twice with his dog walked onto Tulumellos property and ripped a total of seven signs out of the ground.
My wife was very uneasy at night, Tulumello said. And if youll notice, changed the camera around for the other angle, I put the special sign up there trying to warn these people. Didnt work. This fella just kept coming.
Tulumello tracked him down, quickly realizing he was his neighbor, living just a few blocks away. He then handed over all the evidence, including the videos, to Amherst police, who promptly made an arrest.
Dr. Norman Muir, the former vice president of academic affairs for Medaille College, was charged with petty larceny and trespassing. Muirs LinkedIn page shows he was also the colleges undergraduate dean of academic affairs, the associate vice president for academic affairs at Keuka College near Ithaca and the assistant vice president for academic affairs at Bellarmine College near Louisville.
I was aggravated, angry, Tulumello said. This person comes up on my property in the middle of the night. You dont know what to think. I mean, these are stupid signs, but youre coming onto my property in the middle of the night, stealing. Thats not right.
Although Muir told police he currently works for a local college, he was replaced at Medaille in July, according to the colleges website.
Muir declined to appear on camera, but said last Thursday he stole the signs because I was angry with Donald Trump and the way he ran his campaign.
I wish I wouldnt have done, Muir said. It was stupid. I feel ashamed that I did it.
Tulumello said the Erie County GOP has reached out to replace his Trump campaign signs.
Now, let's just hope some of the perps get the justice they deserve.
This goes beyond just plain theft and trespassing. This is trampling on others rights and voices in the political process.
Dumb lefties just can’t help themselves.
Obviously this professor hates America, free speech and the Constitution in general.
Dr. Norman Muir..yeah, that bull S### doctor title should be reserved for a select few, it is given out too easily.
Change the doctorate degree to something else. Lends too much prestige to those who dont deserve it.
As for me, I would have watched the camera patiently, with a Louisville in hand.
I would have given him a choice of which hand he didn’t want to use ever again
Thankfully, I’ve never exposed my delicate senses to the video of that thing with the sound ON.
former administrator... excellent
PhD = Piled Higher and Deeper
It is outright totalitarianism: differing opinions are not allowed to even exist.
Seriously, they never grow up.
These leftists are propagandized to the point of insanity....makes the book “1984” look mild.
I am not putting up a trump sign, I am putting up a Hillary sign with a get well balloon tied to it, and beside that a Jill Stein modified to read “Jill stein -> The doctor Hillary Needs”
Just to tweek the libs
True..they’re like children
Free speech - to the left - has always meant shouting down opposing viewpoints.
I have always thought that anyone who aspires to a PhD should be required to pass math up through applied differential equations, just to prove that they have the mental chops to be a Phd.
Put the SOB in jail for a few days. Then fine the hell out of him.
