"You shut your mouth when you're talking to me." So goes the line from the classic American film "Wedding Crashers." A line that I took to heart as I watched a good chunk of Monday night's presidential debate on mute.
Why? Not because I couldn't bear to hear what the candidates said. Instead, I wanted to analyze the nonverbals (which go a long way to determining likability) without distraction. Yes, optics matter.

Lester “Ding Dong” Holt was a damn joke!
This appears to have been an op-ed piece, in a generally very good little publication; and the author works for a PR firm.
It’s an op-ed piece - like much of what does appear on FR. The author is in PR.
I do believe that media bias is so overwhelming at this point that it is really working against them. No one need waste time pointing it out. Like “Affirmative Action” it damages those whom it would purport to assist. In other words if Hillary is so incompetent she needs Lester’s help then maybe Lester should be on the ballot...
I liked it. I want Blue back. The commies should be red.
She looked like Mao in red drag
Nice pic - she looks either deranged or stoned. Or both.
YMMV
I’m darn well going to hold someone using a byline and publishing in a ‘major’ journal to a hell of a lot higher standard than someone on FB, DU or FB, and the world would be a better place, IMHO, if more people did likewise!
YMMV
LOL. CNBC surrendered.
Hillary’s hair was glued into place. She had more make up on than the mother vampire in The Strain. She kept looking at notes. It was blatantly obvious she had memorized answers to particular questions.
Donald’s hair was...well, it was Donald’s hair. He refrained from pursing his lips too much. He didn’t appear to be as well prepared, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
She needed to look healthy and human. She was 1 for 2.
He needed to look presidential and calm. He did that.
Win to Trump by a hair...
I caught that. He did later backtrack and shake his hand. But it seemed to be an obvious snub, when it happened.
Clinton propounds some sort of weird trickle down economic in which the government takes money from Americans and then, after taking a heft management fee for itself, trickles down what is leftover on the people. A bona fide crime against humanity.
Ha! Is that W.C.? None better!
Thank you for that. I get bugged about the whole podium/lectern thing too.
That’s pretty much my take too. Trump hit hard a few times and stumbled badly a few times. Hillary was more polished — probably a little TOO polished. And that phony grin was nausea-inducing.
I doubt anyone changed his vote because of that debate.
And yes, Lester Holt is a biased dolt. But what else did you expect?
I think it’s more important to attend to the content of the article, than to jump to calling someone an idiot for the mere misuse of a word.
YMMV
They SHOULD lose their broadcast license.
When the enemedia proves their agenda journalism over and over, they are no longer news.
They are propaganda.
And should no longer have access to American airwaves.
Much like her trickle down charity
