Who won the first presidential debate Monday night between Democratic presidential nominee and former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the Republican nominee, businessman Donald Trump, at Hofstra University?
This was the first for three debates the two candidates will take part in before the Nov. 8 general election. With the race running so close in key battleground states like Florida, North Carolina and Ohio, both candidates needed to dominate and score points with undecided voters in the 90-minute performance at Hofstra University on Long Island.
Two national polls released just hours before Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump met in their first presidential debate placed the race for the White House in a virtual dead heat.
Clinton led Trump, 47 percent to 46 percent, in a Quinnipiac University poll and the two candidates were tied at 46 percent in a Bloomberg Politics survey.
A McClatchy/Marist poll last week showed, 69 percent of Trump supporters said they strongly supported the Republican nominee, compared with 62 percent of Clinton backers who said the same about their candidate.

Trump winning this one too
Sad to say I think Hillary won. Trump pussied out. He was debating the most corrupt politician in US history and he b*tched out. He could have atomized her but her refused to pull the trigger. This is really really really bad because as it stands now she is all but guaranteed to win the election.
Because we have seen her show before. Pure politics for Hillary. Real to Trump. He was trying to be real, she was all show.
Sadly, Trump lost the election tonight.
Sadly, Trump lost the election tonight.
figure trump just didn’t have any major blowups.. If he didn’t he is fine..with way race is trending, Hillary needed him to melt down.
Sadly your a troll, full out s***
I loved how she talked about investing in renewable energy and he threw Solyndra in her face.
Nonsense. Trump’s words will be remembered by the electorate. Hillary will not. She was uniquely nasty. Trump remained a gentleman but was not a pushover. His ideas were strong. Hers were pablum. She sounded like the politician she is. He sounded like the concerned, passionate businessman he is.
How can you win a debate when nobody trusts anything that comes out of your mouth?
This is why the Right never wins. You spend all your time crying about not getting 100% of what YOU think you should of gotten instead of actually THINKING about how this went tonight.
Holt/Hillary came across as just another set of standard issue DC political machine bots. They were everything US Voters hate about the politics. Trump was honest, passionate and straight forward.
Intead of trying to play political pundit and crying you did not get fed the red meat you wanted, think about how this played with undecided voters instead.
Not one question to Hillary on any point. No email, no Benghazi, No false testimony before congress, No FBI Scandal, etc. It was a complete scripted tag team attack with no legitimacy. Super reading and high blink count.
Donald weathered the attack and came off as someone who will bring welcome change.
Put down the crack pipe.
As expected, Clinton was allowed to take as much time as she wanted and the moderator tried to cheat Trump out of every response he tried to make...He had to force his way in...
O yea trolls of little faith.
Trump did not melt down. Held his own.
She got under his skin. It showed.
When sHillary talks it is like when the teacher talks to Charlie Brown. Kind of like a muffled trumpet sound.
Trump is clearly not a politician and not articulate. What I don’t understand is how someone who has been so successful in life can be so inarticulate.
Hillary on the other hand is clearly a politician and articulate, but has horrible judgement. We see the results of her judgement across the world. When I place my vote in November it will be because I think Trump’s judgement is better, not because he made his case tonight.
