Amid a climate of confusion and anger, retired police officer Jeff Roorda lent his pro-police perspective to CNNs analysis of the shooting of Terence Crutcher in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
While video footage shows Crutcher with his hands up only seconds before Officer Betty Shelby fired the fatal shot, Roorda cautioned against rushing to condemn the officer, particularly given what already is known about the suspect.
Lets wait for all the information before we reach some judgment, Roorda told host Don Lemon during a Tuesday appearance on CNN Tonight. And I think what we know so far is that this gentleman did not have his hands up when the officer shot him. We know that he was very likely under the influence of a controlled substance.
In case developments on Thursday, the officer was charged with first-degree manslaughter.
District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler filed the charges Shelby, 42, and her lawyer was arranging for her to surrender.
Lemon noted that until autopsy results are released, it wont be known if Crutcher was under the influence, but Roorda warned against drawing hasty conclusions anyway.
Were fine with rushing to judgment on the police officer, but we dont want to rush to judgment on the suspect, Roorda chided. But they did find PCP in his car.

Why refer to the dirtbag as “gentleman”
He was a lifelong POS with a long history
The officer had spent nearly 10 minutes with him at gunpoint with him refusing to cooperate, while a gun was pointed at him
Bottom line; If he had listened to her, he would be alive.
Tulsa is more red neck. In this case that’s good.
Well, like, who REALLY wants to go to Tulsa?
An officer not even aware that the window of a car that had been sitting there all the time, was shut as it had always been.
Who flinched at the sound of another officer’s tazer.
Who does not belong on that or any other force.
Simple answers.
The Clinton lead in North Carolina has evaporated.
Most of those arrest in Charlotte are from out of state.
The riots in Charlotte are a part of the Clinton GOTV.
No riots in Oklahoma because Oklahoma is very, very, red.
pro-police perspective
Fox also. How do they get these taking points when video shows otherwise.
Oh what a merry and pointless dance there will be in a game of “Blame exactly one person.”
We do know that there was an eff-up and other officers didn’t fall into it.
Trump for President.
What happens to you if you don’t shoot first:
When all the info is in, I suspect that will be the bottom line.
I see what you did there.
We know that Betty Shelby lied, we know the victim had his hands in the air, we know Betty Shelby shot him after he had been tased, and we know she was the only officer that used deadly force.
The officer had plenty of back up and was never in danger of losing control of the situation. Disobeying a police officer should not be an automatic death penalty offense.
Agreed.
This case reminds me a bit of the Oakland, CA shooting a few years ago when a police officer mistakenly pulled his gun instead of his tazer and killed a guy. There was just no need to cap the guy here, IMO.
“What happens to you if you dont shoot first:”
I read a study somewhere that concluded that when an officer is shot, it is usually by a person with a gun, and remarkably, they can find no cases of a person without a gun shooting a police officer.
It doesn’t get you anywhere calling people names.
I was reading a book on forensic sciences. The police were questioning a suspect on a grisly murder of a child. One officer was kind to the suspect, calling him sir or mister. At his own expense, he purchased a KFC meal for both of them and sat down and ate with him. Shortly after the meal, the suspect confessed all. The officer later asked why he confessed? The suspect explained that the officer was the only one who EVER treated him kindly.
There is no reason to be cruel and abusive. We should be kind all the way up until and including throwing that switch. Calling names dehumanizes and makes inhumane treatment easier. That is why soldiers use terms like Japs, Krauts, Nips, etc., dehumanize, easier to kill. I work with livestock. I always try to speak or think kindly even when they are bad. You have to be a pretty big sicko to beat on something you call babe, pal, friend.
He who hesitates dies on the side of the interstate drowning in his own blood.
