Tulsa County DA: Charges of manslaughter in 1st degree will be filed against Officer Betty Shelby.
LOL, good one.
“He was trying to open his window or enter the vehicle AFTER being told to stop and that is why he was shot.”
==
The problem with that is in reading what she claims - that the window was already open. The images clearly show blood running down the closed window.
I think she just overreacted, but I don’t think she needs to do hard time. But it will all be hashed out when she has her day in court. We’ll have to wait and see.
The man should be alive. He was tased. That was sufficient to immobilize him. Whether he was guilty of anything, we could have found out without the lives of our police being at risk. The department did good to provide non-lethal to the patrolmen. Plus, back-up was already on the scene. We will now find out if there the degree of negligence, as to whether it was criminal. The police officer deserves a presumption of innocence. We can do justice for the one person and those who loved him, without doing injustice to the other.
Based purely on the videos she did not have to shoot the guy. Making a guess, she probably had her finger on the trigger of her weapon the whole time and flinched. If that’s the case her colleagues are lucky she didn’t shoot one of them in the back.
I thought I read since 2011.
God made man and woman different for a number of reasons. I don’t think one of the reasons for making woman was for her to be a policeman or soldier.
See post 4.
I see this as a mistake by a young officer. Unless someone comes up with better explanation. She will run into the CJ system and be tossed into a meat grinder. In saner times, she would be show some mercy if her motivations are clean.
That’s a good point. That’s why people who get involved in confrontations with the police usually come away with 20+ bullet holes in them, or zero.
1st degree manslaughter, not 1st degree murder. Think of killing somebody while driving through a red light.
Now the officer will have a chance to present her defense in court, and a jury can decide.
I saw a totally out of it black man NOT doing what he was instructed to do. I just want to point that out. This is ENDEMIC in the black community and the ACTUAL CAUSE of the problem.
I heard that his car was PARKED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET LONG BEFORE THE COP EVEN NOTICED HIM.
Good step. The video and what details have been released are very troubling. Now let the courts figure it out.
Yep, my guess is that it was an accidental discharge due to poor screening and employment standards of police cadets.
Now two lives are trashed.
THE BLM ARE ALREADY HERE IN TULSA - EVERYONE IS ON EDGE
Appropriate
I would imagine that, at least in part, fear of riots is playing a rather large part. Toxicology results are not back yet.
Small female cops should not be on the street. They should be behind desks. It is a scary thing to be pulled over by a 5’2” woman. Not only is she scared of people bigger than she is but she always feels she has to prove she is a badder badass than the 6’1’ 220 lb guys.
She won’t be anymore.
The court system will now determine her guilt or innocence.
