Donald Trump is up 5 points nationally over Hillary Clinton in a four-way race, a Thursday poll from right-leaning Rasmussen found.
It's the Republican nominee's largest lead in the poll since mid-July.
In the poll that also includes Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson and Green Party nominee Jill Stein, Trump holds a 44% to 39% advantage over Clinton.
It's an improvement from his 2-point lead in the four-way poll last week, and a much larger improvement from his 4-point deficit in early September.
The poll surveyed 1,000 likely voters between September 20 and 21. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
On Wednesday, the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found that Clinton, the Democratic nominee, was up 6 points over Trump in the same four-way race. As of Thursday morning, the former secretary of state held a 1.1-point lead over Trump in the RealClearPolitics polling average.

On election night Pubbies need to hold back ballot boxes so the cheats and liars in the Democrat party don't know how many votes they have to stuff" to steal the election. If they guess too low Trump wins... if they guess too high we challenge the results..
Also, let's talk up the death penalty for those DOING voter fraud. Enough is enough...
“One big difference is that Trump is seen by people as an entertainment figure, while Romney was seen as a businessman.”
Maybe that’s why the negative ads aren’t sticking. OTOH, it may be that Trump’s negatives are so high (and they are) and his positives are so enthusiastic. That means HRC is plumbing too small a group of folks who don’t have a strong negative or positive. So she threw her money down the crapper.
OTOH, negative ads against HRC have the same problem this year. Her unfavorables are really high and most people, even many of her supporters, think she’s a liar and a grifter. So running ads proving she’s a liar and a grifter may not move the meter at all.
The people not committed to Trump or HRC are going to make up their minds despite the negatives. That makes it an interesting election to do TV for. Maybe Trump will go all positive early. That would be interesting.
That YouTube clip from her videotaped address to the union members out in Las Vegas should just be replayed over and over again between now and Election Day:
AWESOME
Johnson has no appeal for any potential Trump voter.
There’s something creepy about that vid.
“No need to run ads showing that she’s a liar and a grifter. Just run ads showing her screeching like a banshee about some idiotic thing or another. That YouTube clip from her videotaped address to the union members out in Las Vegas should just be replayed over and over again between now and Election Day...”
Were I managing the TV campaign for Trump, I think I would be suggesting this. Plus a bunch of TV that emphasizes the positive—Make America Great Again is a good slogan.
The negatives would emphasize old and worn-out (esp to millenials). That is more damaging than crooked, imo.
