Plastic crockery and cutlery is to be banned in France unless it is made from biologically sourced materials.
The law comes into force in 2020. It is part of a French environmental initiative called the Energy Transition for Green Growth, part of a package aimed at tackling climate change.
But, the Independent reported, the move faces a challenge from Pack2Go Europe, a Brussels-based organisation representing European packaging manufacturers.
"We are urging the European Commission to do the right thing and to take legal action against France for infringing European law," said Eamonn Bates, secretary general of Pack2go Europe.
He said there was no proof that biologically sourced material was any more environmentally beneficial.

OK, everyone, time to go to BJ’s or Costco , buy a few of those YUGE boxes of plastic forks, knives, and spoons, and send them to France. Flood the French Parliament, President, and Prime Minister with them.

I guess so.
I’m a little eccentric. I carry around a set of cutlery with me.
Got tired of going into restaurants to buy and enjoy a nice meal only to find silverware looking like it spent two weeks on a curb in the local barrio, with crusted on food to boot.
If the silverware looks good, I don’t drag it out. If it doesn’t, I use my fall back.
Works out quite well.

I am a little eccentric too. Sometimes I take my own food. Especially salad dressing.

I can see doing that. I don’t, but if I wanted my salad dressing, it would be easy enough to do. Good for you.

I’ve never had a problem with it.
Accent used to be MSG. I loved to use it on steaks way back when.
I’m lucky in that I have no known allergies.

I ate it for years, just like everyone else. Then I decided I needed to lose a few pounds and bought into Jenny Craig. after about 3 weeks I felt so bad I didn't care what I weighed. Then I discovered I had sensitized myself to flavor enhancers. They make my heart go crazy so I don't eat them, but I have had lots of allergies since being an asthmatic child.
