A knifeman who stabbed nine people at a Minnesota shopping centre at the weekend has been identified by his father as a 22-year-old student.
Dahir A Adan is a Kenyan-born ethnic Somali who had been in the US for 15 years, his father told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
He said he had "no suspicion" that his son was involved in extremist activity.
Authorities have not identified the attacker.
But Ahmed Adan said police had told him at around 9pm on Saturday that his son died at the mall.

Used to be that mass killers pretty much fit a profile. They were often a loner, cut off from social contact, and not affiliated with anyone else.
Now they’re run of the mill people who actually blend in. They’re connected to others, participating in normal social endeavors, going to work school or other participatory. activities.

The poor boy was asking for directions to the snack bar and those bad people in the mall ignored him. There was a knife just lying around and he was overcome with justified anger as a result of his extreme hunger. He felt bad about what he did, but the cop didn’t give him a chance to apologize and shot him in cold blood.
