I am not a doctor -- as many readers have helpfully pointed out to me over the past 72 hours. So, I reached out to a real doctor to get some answers about Hillary Clinton's pneumonia diagnosis and what it might mean for her presidential campaign. Dr. Steven Simpson, the medical director of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care at The University of Kansas Hospital, is that real doctor. Our conversation, conducted via email and edited only for grammar and flow, is below.
FIX: Hillary Clintons campaign said she was overheated at an event Sunday and she appeared to be somewhat unsteady on her feet at least briefly. Are symptoms like this consistent with a diagnosis of pneumonia, which apparently Clinton had received 48 hours earlier?
Simpson: These symptoms and signs are absolutely consistent with a diagnosis of pneumonia 48 hours previously. Overheated may well mean that she had a fever, although it is difficult to say. Pneumonia is commonly associated with intravascular volume depletion, or more precisely, causes intravascular volume depletion, which the lay public may call dehydration. Often, the inflammation associated with pneumonia causes poor appetite and poor thirst, while the fever causes increased evaporative losses....

Setting up ILLary’s dodge of the debates...
Just in time to sweep the election.
Her only hope of winning is to stay out of sight until the election is over.
Her numbers crater every time people lay eyes on her.
I don’t believe she has pneumonia for even one minute. See Hillary cozying up to child; see Hillary NOT coughing the day before. See Hillary having prior coughing fits in weeks prior. Did she have pneumonia then too? Pneumonia? Bull. She, and all those around her, lie big-time.
WaPo making excuses for Clinton in advance. Don’t you wish that everyone could see what we see?
Au contraire. She’s “powering through” and will be back on the campaign trail on Thursday. What a woman!
Brother has had pneumonia five times. Last time at 60.
It was bad. He said he NEVER came close to falling over.
I dont know.
I have nerve damage. I’ve fallen over a few times and mine i slight.
I’m going with a severe neurological disease, which was either caused by the TBI (Which can happen) or was very much exacerbated by the TBI.
My doc put me on Turmeric, omega 3 and resveratrol as well as a daily dose of nuts and blueberries after I was able to take pills on my own after TBI.
Almost 10 years later and still sharp as a tack :)
NO LAUGHING!! :)
You are correct. We can shortly expect to see demands from the DNC for ridiculous accommodations for their candidate.
I don’t believe Hillary missing the debates will hurt Trump. They have the moderators stacked anyway. Less chance of Trump making a mistake. He will win if he just keeps doing as he has been.
She is dodging debates. If you people fall for this Pneumonia lie , you are really dumb. She has a wasting disease. Seizures from Parkinson’s ? We need all the records NOW!!
I’d bet the “pneumonia” thing was a classic Clintonian half-truth.
What they said was that she “has been diagnosed for pneumonia.”
That’s probably literally true - she probably has AT SOME TIME IN THE PAST been diagnosed with pneumonia, probably aspirational pneumonia recurring from time to time associated with Parkinson’s.
But Pneumonia had nothing to do with Sunday’s episode.
Make Hellary show for the debates, but allow her to remain in a wheelchair and wear an oxygen mask when she’s not answering questions. And require the cameras be on her a fixed fraction of the time, even when she’s not answering questions.
Are the cobalt blue glasses a new therapy for pneumonia ?
I would never have believed this would last this long. I thought it was absolutely over on Sunday!!!
She won’t recover from her Parkinson’s ever.
“Hillary Clinton may not recover from her pneumonia until late October”
So soon? Why not until the day of her coronation in January?
