Road Trip: Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana

Barksdale Air Force Base (AFB) is a United States Air Force base which is located in northwest Louisiana, in Bossier Parish, and is contiguous to Bossier City, Louisiana along the base's western and northwestern edge. Barksdale Air Force Base occupies over 22,000 acres of land east of Bossier City and along the southern edge of Interstate Highway 20.

The host unit at Barksdale is the 2d Bomb Wing (2 BW), the oldest Bomb Wing in the Air Force. It is assigned to the Air Force Global Strike Command's (AFGSC) Eighth Air Force (8 AF).

The 2 BW is equipped with the B-52H Stratofortress bomber. It provides flexible, responsive, global combat capability, autonomously or in concert with other forces, and trains all Air Force Global Strike Command and Air Force Reserve Command Boeing B-52 Stratofortress crews.

More than 15,000 active-duty, Air Force Reserve members and civilians make up Barksdale's workforce. About 44 B-52 Stratofortress aircraft are also assigned to the wing.

Team Barksdale provides decisive nuclear deterrence and conventional firepower to Combatant Commanders for global strike operations anytime, anywhere!

The 2d Bomb Wing is the largest bomb wing in Air Force Global Strike Command and part of the historic 8th Air Force. More than 8,500 active-duty, Air Force Reserve members and civilians make up Barksdale's workforce. About 26 B-52 Stratofortress aircraft are also assigned to the wing.

Have you been getting some rain? Hope it doesn’t spoil the festival, but those outdoor events seem to be rain magnets!

Hope y’all get lots of interest with all the extra people in town for the fun! Eat a funnel cake for me! :)

Howdy, PRO!

Sounds like you’ve had a good day, and a really good one ahead on Wed.! Has it been a long time since you last saw your buddy?

Decent day here. Did the HQ thing, came home and got us all fed, and just finished watching part of 3 of the Major Crimes summer finale. Love the show and they’re kicking butt with this finale.

We got an inch of rain Sat. night (first rain in two weeks) but it’s been clear since then. There’s a system across AL and GA that they SAY should move up here tomorrow but we’ll believe it when we see it.

You aren’t kidding about outdoor festivities being rain magnets. Seems to happen every year. It usually rains one day for this festival but they’re calling for rain all three days this year. We need the rain badly but NOT THEN! LOL

Maybe y’all will luck out. There is a carnival that used to come to the mall early every spring. And invariably when it did, it either snowed or rained all weekend. I kind of liked having it if for that reason. Otherwise, it just took up too much of our parking area. LOL!

It depends on where the system comes from, and I haven’t heard them say yet. If it comes from the northwest, we’ll probably stay dry here. If it comes from the south or southwest, we’ll get wet. We do need the rain desperately but dang the timing! It’s a fun little festival and the town puts a lot of time and effort into it.

laur.....I was stationed at Barksdale May ‘55 to Dec. ‘55.
It was the 2nd Strat. Recon. Wing flying RB 47s when I was there.
Interstate 20 was under construction when I left for home.

I just have to add another unit (that I usually get done Monday night) to the mix.

And thanks.

Like you don’t already have enough tomorrow without having to add one more to the mix. Sure would be nice if those people would get their acts together, wouldn’t it?

LOL! Figured I’d better go for it while it was there. Might be the only one I get to sneak in all week. :-)

It would, but....we got an email today saying that they are making cuts on the slope and one of the positions being cut is the one that does a lot of input for payroll. Don’t know how this is going to shake out. Not good, I suspect.

No, that does not sound good at all! That sounds like one of the last cuts they need to make, especially if they want everyone to get paid.

Sounds like it’s time for a 4-woman rebellion. LOL

My lucky night. :-)

Been keeping an eye on Peaglet and the chat and it looks like our chubby eaglet is going to be banded and tested in a couple of weeks.

Oil prices are killing us up here...and we have an idiot dim governor....just tax the oil companies more.

That works well. Not!
