Police officers at Brown University are no longer including the race of criminal suspects when announcing crimes, after an outcry from Brown students who said the practice stigmatized certain groups.
The policy was first implemented a year ago, but was only publicized Wednesday by The Brown Daily Herald. Including a suspects race is often harmful because vague descriptions can reinforce stereotypes, causing hostility towards some community members, according to police chief Mark Porter.
To solve the problem, Brown police are making the descriptions even vaguer, including only the suspects age, sex, build, and general appearance (sans skin color).
The shift fulfills a demand from some Brown students who called for it while the school was hammering out its $165 million Pathways to Diversity and Inclusion action plan.

ROFL!!!!!
There’s no reason to send your kids and ridiculous amounts of your hard earned dollars to schools who can’t deal with the most superficial aspects of life.
Correction...”Xe looked like a...”
still ROFL cause it’s so ####ing true!!! :)
“APB for a person with arms, legs, a head and feet.”
Nope that can be offensive to someone who might not have one of those items mentioned. The only word that works in your description is “person”
“She looked like a 30 year old Caitlin Jenner. And she had man-hands!”
If they don’t say what race they are, you know what race they are.
ROFL!!!!
got the Seinfeld reference too!!! :)
She had hands like George the Animal Steel!!!
Perhaps they should simply describe them as, “Brown police suspects”.
But skin color? Not sure we should be talking about this.....
Yeah, I would imagine if 99.9% of all violent crimes around campus were committed by blondes they might actually make the same request. The thing is reality is what it is, and if it points to one group as being criminal thugs then all the PC BS in the world isn’t going to change it.
“The suspect is described as extremely un-good”
Idiocy.
MLK had his faults, that’s for sure.
But he would either die laughing or cry if he read this nonsense.
I think reporting sex is sexist and even mentioning that they are human is speciest. they should simply say they are looking for something.
So APBs will now be sent out as “something may have happened or something. You could possibly do something about it.”
Insanity. Complete insanity.
