Gary Johnson: 'What Is Aleppo?'

Gary Johnson, the Libertarian presidential candidate, does not know what Aleppo is.

Asked on Wednesday's "Morning Joe" what he would do if elected president about the city in Syria at the center of the refugee crisis, Johnson earnestly asked what Aleppo is even.

"And what is Aleppo?" Johnson said.

"You're kidding me," Mike Barnicle responded, who asked the question. Barnicle then began to explain what Aleppo is to the candidate.

"OK, got it, got it," Johnson cut him off, and then added, "With regard to Syria I do think it's a mess. I think that the only way that we deal with Syria is to join hands with Russia to diplomatically bring that at an end."

"It's just a mess," he said.

Yes.

"I’ve never heard of Aleppo either. It’s a “gotcha” question."

No, like most Americans, you're just a low information voter.

I don’t support Johnson, but there is just so much info a human can carry around in their brain. Media loves pulling this crap. I certainly don’t know what’s happening in every part on the world either and I’m pretty well read.

Another low information voter. You're not as well read as you think you are.

"This is probably why Trump wants Gary on the debate stage, so he can neuter him."

I doubt Gary Johnson ever had a set of nads in his life. He's the definition of a wuss.

“This is probably why Trump wants Gary on the debate stage”

I don’t know where this meme got started, but I’m pretty sure Trump didn’t want GJ anywhere near the debate. Odd numbers mean Hillary is center stage.

"Ditto. I would guess that unless you were really interested in the Syrian civil war, you wouldn’t know about Aleppo. I don’t care about war in Syria. Muslims killing Muslims. Let me know which Muslims win, when it’s over. Spare me the details now. Aleppo, Shaleppo, who cares.

Maybe you should care. Mrs. Bill Clinton is planning to send half the former residents of Aleppo to your neighborhood. We'll spare you the details.

"I’ve been rather disappointed by the FR responses these past couple days. Aleppo is at the heart of global conflict right now."

Agree. It's as if they are proud they don't know squat about current events. It's embarrassing.

From the Santa Monica Observer:

Donald Trump Will Not Debate Hillary, if Gary Johnson not Allowed to Participate

The “article” is pure speculation with no support.

You wanted to know where it came from. As to its validity I cannot speak. If it is a valid story, then perhaps the reason is he wants to show people the real Gary Johnson to see if they would still support him, or turn their support to Trump. That was my whole point.

Right, but you repeated on this thread it as if it had validity. We do have to do at least a little bit of critical thinking and filtering.

While I could have offered up my doubts, I instead chose to speculate why Trump might have wanted to include Gary if the story were true. Sorry if I made it seem like I bought the story hook, line & sinker.

It was really meant more as a joke than a serious speculation though.

I remember when George W. Bush was running the first time and some reporter asked him to name the leaders of four relatively obscure foreign countries and he only got one of them right. He was mercilessly mocked for his ignorance. One of the leaders was the leader of a non-country (Chechnya).

Johnson has an inflated ego so he should be running as a Democrat. He was governor of a state with 2 million people (rank 36th). Other than that his major accomplishments in life were to climb Mount Everest and to smoke pot.
