Conservatives tricked into sharing bogus stories concocted by left
Almost all of us have been a victim of accidentally spreading fake news at one time. A trusted friend emails you a link to an article that is red meat for the conservative base; it sounds legitimate, and the name of the site even sounds official. You forward the article and post it on Facebook and Twitter and then the backlash is embarrassing. Multiple people point out youre wrong, and you feel like an idiot. But how were you to know, especially in this information overload, social media era? It has become normal to quickly skim articles and headlines.
It used to be The Onion was the only satire news site. And the site makes it very clear its news is satire. But within the last year, multiple sites (there is a list compiled here https://stream.org/left-busy-planting-fake-conservative-news-sites/) have sprung up that do not make it clear they are satire, if at all. They brazenly post fake news that isnt even funny, like The Onion, but sounds like legitimate news.

This was also on our local radio yesterday:
Rachel Alexander, with TheStream.org, joins the show. Are the Democrats running false news stories and websites to make conservatives look like radical extremists? Bill and Rachel will chat about it.
Fake news sites and stories are popping up all over social media The Streams Rachel Alexander has found that some are being run by nefarious Democrats trying to make conservatives look like radical extremists. The strategy get conservatives to spread ridiculous, fake stories until a prominent official falls for it and remarks on one of them. Then the left pounces on the official, making them look foolish. The fix? Conservatives need to check myth-debunking sites to verify stories they read

Typical communist and Nazi tactic. Confuse everything to obscure what they are REALLY doing. I’m a hater. I hate ****ing DemocRATS. They are the scum of the Earth.
It takes a better Christian than me to not hate these cretins.
Distract, confuse, waste OUR TIME!
Most of these are sites that write satire and there is satire both on the left and the right. Moderates have no humor, thus do not do well with satire.
With all decent satire, a person should be able to read through the article, and at some point identify it as satire.
The only way Hillary wins is to cheat. It’s how the Clinton’s operate.
Busted! Hillary Campaign Caught Inserting Fake Audiences At Fake Campaign Rallies With Computer Animation! Aug. 31, 2016
[snip]The video below from her rally in Reno, Nevada on August 25, is twelve minutes but it is worth watching every second. It shows the green screen insertion point a black line across the set and also shows cellphones from within the crowd which are taking video of . . . . nothing. No Hillary. No flags. No cheering crowd! Its all FAKE!
The onion does satire. There are many ‘satire’ sites. THIS is NOT satire. This is dirty pool promoting false stories from places that LOOK legitimate...like the fake ABCNEWS.
“It takes a better Christian than me to not hate these cretins.”
Hatred is a “good thing” used properly. Similarly, wishing some evil people don’t get a long life is also a “good thing.” I know that Hillary and Obama are in my “thoughts” along those lines each and every day. I just hope I outlive both of them so I can revel in their deaths.
Thanks, AuntB.
The lefties have been doing this for years already. Much of it orchestrated by leftist organizations run by Soros with benign sounding names like the Human Right’s Campaign. Just their same old tricks. The leftists get a boner every time they upset a white conservative Christian. They have no lives outside of trolling. See it for what it is - liberals who can’t find jobs and still live home with mommy and daddy. This is the most excitement they get outside of gay sex.
yes, we need to verify. Also, don’t trust snopes.com implicitly.
Snopes started out, it seems, as a bonafide clearing house for urban legends, etc. But now it seems (at least in the political realm) to be a house organ for George Soros and Hillary Clinton.
Jim, snopes.com is still on the front page of FR as a link. Do you still think it is a worthy source? I know you’ve relegated politico.com to the back woods. :)
these are also mostly run by lefties.
The “right” needs to be truly knowledgeable as opposed to know-it-all.
“Almost all of us have been a victim of accidentally spreading fake news at one time.”
I confess. I’ve fallen for one or two fake stories. I (briefly) believed that Obama was a natural born citizen, that he was the smartest man ever to run for the presidency, and even that he was a patriot. Anyone can fall for the most absurd story if we put too much faith in what’s on the Internet.

There is no excuse for supposedly right thinking people for believing these lies, however. The devil is the most rotten being in the creation... that doesn’t excuse us when we fall for his charms.
What’s an intelligent person to do? If only there was a mass conglomeration of information available at our fingertips, delivered by a computer or something.
Internet interaction can be the very opposite of well considered thinking. What else, even this very form into which I type at this moment, is such an open door for knee jerking and keyhole views of reality?
Maybe one of the internet’s accomplishments will be to teach us the folly of depending on it too much, in the manner of how, in the manner described in the book of Daniel, people will “go to and fro looking for wisdom.”
Donald Trump is certainly using old fashioned means of interacting with people. He didn’t email President Nieto of Mexico, he visited him. He’s visiting Detroit, not asking for petitions to be filled out online. Yes, Donald goes on Twitter, but that’s not nearly everywhere he goes.
If only there was wisdom to separate chaff from wheat. And that is squarely in the realm of old-fashioned activity.
For as long as I can remember what is was, this has been ABC News http://abcnews.go.com/
