Big quake there. Could start a massive tsunami wave.
Hate when massive earthquakes hit urgently.
West Coast of the North Island...might be in for some high waves...
” Could start a massive tsunami wave.”
Perhaps this is goodbye to China’s man-made islands.
A whole lot of the evil NWO crowd have been moving to New Zealand because it is “safe” and anti-Nuclear power! Good luck folks!
I have cousins in Auckland. Which way would a tsunami travel from that point?
The Earth is Alive , live with it
NZ is very prone to quakes. 7 is not that unusual.
Unlikely, the epicenter is pretty deep. It is usually the shallow ones that cause the most damage and wave action.
Big, and fairly shallow. Dangerous quake.
Depends on which way the plate shifted, it could go any which a way.................
Doesn’t look like any tsunami risk at this point
USGS says 19 kilometers (about 12 miles)

(NOAA’s shift key is stuck)
Does not sound all that shallow to me.
Surf’s up.
Auckland looks to be sheltered from a tsunami originating at quake location, though I would think there would be plenty of surge. FWIW, Hawaii is not in danger of a tsunami from this.
