The presidential election could be delayed or scrapped altogether if conspiracy theories become predictive and a candidate dies or drops out before Nov. 8. The perhaps equally startling alternative, if there's enough time: Small groups of people hand-picking a replacement pursuant to obscure party rules.
The scenarios have been seriously considered by few outside of the legal community and likely are too morbid for polite discussion in politically mixed company. But prominent law professors have pondered the effects and possible ways to address a late-date vacancy.
"There's nothing in the Constitution which requires a popular election for the electors serving in the Electoral College," says John Nagle, a law professor at the University of Notre Dame, meaning the body that officially elects presidents could convene without the general public voting.

Trump meets with Mexican President. Hillary in Chappaqua watching on CNN. Grand Mal seizure induced. More press cover up. The Iced tea was cold, and it was an allergic reaction to the extra flavors.
..., or get rid of both candidates? Many on the Left wanted Elizabeth Warren to run for ‘16 POTUS, instead, while GOP Establishment/Other RINOs want someone other than Donald Trump. Many voters, in general, would prefer the final two serious choices for ‘16 POTUS to not be Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
Bingo!
Perhaps a better question is what happens if Hillary wins but expires before taking the Oath of Office?
in our legislative district, the voters elected a state representative that died a week before the election. The State Governor ended up replacing the dead house member. Because there is a vice president I am thinking if Hillary dies before or after the election the vice president will step in her place.
From article:
“Trump, 70, would be the oldest person elected president, but his health has received less coverage over the election cycle than apparently unfounded speculation he will drop out.”
Such a sentence reflects a certain type of stupidity is insufferable. I am sure it is an Alinsky tactic.
Never heard that subject come up either. There were a lot of “Somebody please kill Bush” back in those days, but nothing about what to do if it actually happened.
The constitution is very explicit on this. Obama’s term ends on jan 20th.
According to the 20th and 25th amendments, if a presidential candidate dies before taking office, the vp candidate becomes president.
So if Hillary dies before the election, the ballot stays Clinton/Kaine, and Kaine becomes the real presidential candidate.
Huma’s biggest role?
With the announcement that state voting systems “may be vulnerable to hacking”, the administration is laying the groundwork for voiding the election should Trump win.
I think that one of two things are at work here.
One: The admin is planning to make sure Hillary wins by rigging the vote.
Two: Hillary steps out just before the election, Obama declares a national emergency and remains in office.
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
That doesn’t even need a “/s”
Wonder why the Drudge link is giving an error.
Same error here now...did they scrub the article?
Actually, not. In some states, write-ins are not allowed or counted in general elections. .
