In a nightmare scenario, a well-known physician was brutally attacked inside his BMW after leaving a seaside restaurant. Now, after surviving the bloody beating, he offers an exclusive account of the night he was nearly killed.
Venice Beach was warm and festive when Dr. Bruce Lee left the Townhouse bar and restaurant and walked across Windward Avenue toward his car. It was around 10:30 p.m. on a weekday night, but crowds of people strolled along the broad avenue under bright lights. Lee, 61, absorbed the mood, relaxed and happy, as he slid behind the wheel of his green BMW 750. The plush beige leather seats cushioned him as he stretched back to maneuver around a van on the passenger side that had angled in sharply. He had just straightened out the BMWs sleek rear so that it ran parallel to the van when he heard some commotion. Someone was shouting about a bike and money. His right foot, clad in a black dress shoe, gently slid onto the brake pad and Lee turned to look out the window. Two faces, a man and a woman, loomed in close.

Pretty standard strong armed robbery attempt here. He would be dead if the perp wanted him dead.
Oh my goodness, this writer sounds like she is writing a novel. Give me a break, who wants to hear about the interior of his car and his shoes, etc. Why doesn’t she tell us what he was thinking.... yikes, but this is bad reporting.
“absorbed the mood, relaxed and happy, as he slid behind the wheel of his green BMW 750. The plush beige leather seats cushioned him as he stretched back...”
This story is written like a pulp fiction novel.
Horribly written article. It bounces around so much I gave up trying to read it.
Kind of odd toward the end of the article. (Once you get past the surgical machine info.) Why did they target him? Nice big BMW, asian with possibly lots of cash. Not unusual set up. When you get in your car, the first thing you do is lock the doors just as soon as your door closes. Our sedan is set up so the first push of the key fob only unlocks the driver door. Same thing on the truck. Possibly one of the cars was part of the set up to delay his pulling out of his parking spot.
Did you notice the part about his ‘His right foot, clad in a black dress shoe, gently slid onto the brake pad’? Pulp fiction writer? If you can get over the medical device he invented and the horrible writing............ In any case, still, get a gun doc.
Not gonna mess with anyone that kicks Bruce Lee’s azz.
“Police say a large population of homeless and mentally ill in the vicinity may have been a contributing factor to the incident. We dont know what the motivation was in this case, says Officer Theodore Bridges, of the LAPDs Pacific Division, But there was a dispute and unfortunately Mr. Lee was beaten pretty badly.
If his passenger door had been locked...this might have not happened.
The journolist who wrote this must be some frustrated novelist.
In his state of mInd having a gun would have been a liability.
Just skip the sections.
I call it “Hemingway” reporting.............
yes, the overcooked writing is horrible.
Every reporter dreams of winning a Pulitzer for their Great American novel they Peck out about some news event.
Imagine if they did this in regards to Pearl Harbor. The war would have ended before we found out what happened.
There is no flowery language of those truly accosted.
This smells of a failed ‘noir’ setting.
“Imagine if they did this in regards to Pearl Harbor. The war would have ended before we found out what happened.”
Very funny. This article was over the top effusive.
This sentence is just pregnant with irony. Bruce Lee walked Windward? Perfect.
