School officials decision to ban students from displaying the American Flag at a recent football game is creating controversy in a South Carolina school district.
On Friday, Travelers Rest High School principal Lou Lavely banned students from carrying American flags into a football game against Berega High School, because a lot of students at Berega are Hispanic. Lavely contends the American flag could have been used to taunt those students, WNCN reports.
Some events at last evenings football game have resulted in concerns being raised in our community. I am writing to assure that any decisions made regarding American flags being permitted into the game were made in the best interests of all attending the game and in the spirit of patriotism and respect for our flag, Lavely wrote in response to Facebook backlash about the ban, which turned away several students who came to the game with American flags.
Any decision to not allow the American flag to be used in an improper taunting, unsportsmanlike manner is first and foremost in the interests of promoting the safety and well-being of all in attendance at school events. This decision would be made anytime that the American flag, or any other symbol, sign, cheer, or action on the part of our fans would potentially compromise the safety of all in attendance at a school event.

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Do the students from the other school not know they are in America?
I was wondering about that.
Is the other school full of illegal immigrants????? If not then they shouldn’t be offended by the US flag at all
So Hispanics aren’t Americans???
Me thinks this admin idiot might get a clue,, this is America, it has an American history that the flag is a large part of its very existence in explaining.. but NOOoooOOOOoOO.. some snot nosed closet jellyfish masquerading as a principal doesnt want to cause a scene.
Fire his sorry arse Now.
Who is this Lou Lavely? A member of BLM? Or a pathetic sicko wanting to get her name in the news? She shouldn’t be allowed near a school.
Are the Mexican students not Americans? Are they illegals? What are they doing here if they are offended by the flag?
Separation of flag and State issue?
Hispanics living in America must assimilate and accept the US flag as their own as well as all aspects of the American culture.
I don’t give one hoot about ‘insulting other poor whineybutt students’!!
THIS is MY country, and THAT is MY flag!
If school students get their tightywhiteys all in a pinch over that, they have a LOT to learn.

That’s a photo of a dweeb.
TR High principal reverses flag stance:
Good news. If they won’t see the light, let them feel the heat.
I remember after 9/11 when fireman had on their firetrucks American flags being flown from them and some politicians in California told the fireman to remove them. They cited “safety”.
Fire the principal and all those that support the traitor.
Fire EVERYONE who had anything at all to do with this ban. Immediately.
The school has reversed their stance. See link at post 35.
Or, in this case, the flag of the country you live in?
