THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
IRVING BERLIN
ALWAYSA great standard can move between genres with ease and not lose its impact. This song moved easily into jazz, and in 1963, just before her death in a plane crash, Patsy moved it beautifully into country. Note that the waltz tempo has been changed to a gently swaying 2/2.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
IRVING BERLIN
ALWAYSPeggys career had gone into eclipse during the British Invasion, but she came back in 1969 with Is That All There Is? In 1974 she left Capitol for Atlantic to work with the great Jerry Wexler, who had produced Aretha Franklin from 1967 onward. Jerry gave Peggy a 2/2 time signature R&B arrangement that would have fit Aretha well. Its a measure of a great standard that could survive this treatment and thrive.
