BENNY GOODMAN: ”BLUE SKIES”

This 1935 recording became a Goodman signature, and his band had a wonderful time with it. This was a superior Fletcher Henderson arrangement. Benny’s clarinet solo near the end was a masterpiece.

ELLA FITZGERALD: ”BLUE SKIES”

Scat singing was an art, and Ella’s 1958 way with the tune showed why Sinatra held her in such awe. Her voice was better than a trumpet solo.

WILLIE NELSON: ”BLUE SKIES”

This 1978 version made it a hit in country circles. It was understated, but it made an impact.

Indeed. I guess that’s why German wasn’t included in the “romantic” languages. LOL!

The Romance languages are those related to Latin, like French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian. German belongs to a different language family.

Someone posted this song in the forum early today.

It's by Jay Black of Jay and the Americans.

He has such a wide range of vocal ability.

Here's the song he originally sang in 1965:

Jay (Black) and the Americans ~ "Cara Mia"

And here's Jay Black some 50 years later with the same song:

Jay Black and the Americans ~ "Cara Mia"

Hardly a vocal change in 50 years, a great singer and a great song!

I know...and there is NOTHING romantic about German. Though I do love it for what it is.

Wow! That’s amazing and beautiful in both versions! I don’t know why I don’t remember it. It would have been something I’d have liked and played a lot.
