A budding tropical disturbance has the potential to strengthen significantly and reach Florida and the Bahamas with strong winds, coastal flooding and torrential rainfall during Sunday and Monday.
Only one of two active Atlantic tropical systems poses a significant threat to land during the next 10 days. That system, dubbed 99L, has the potential to become Tropical Depression Eight and Tropical Storm Hermine this week.
The disturbance, currently located about 1,000 miles southeast of Miami, is forecast to take a general west to west-northwest path near Puerto Rico on Wednesday night and near Hispaniola on Thursday.
"The exact track of 99L will have a big impact on when the system strengthens," according to AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski.

I barely remember Hermione but can’t recall any of her movies.
I also remember Hurricane Alice which hit Panama City when we lived there in 1953. My Mother told me that it just miraculously died as it hit Panama City.

Hi, I’m Hermine, and my pronoun is Hismine, or else you are going to jail.

Based on the track of this storm, it may be the first to really endanger the Miami, FL metro region since Andrew in 1992. The possibility of a direct hit on Miami Beach, FL is not far-fetched based on some computer models.

Surprised it got even near Panama City. Other things being equal, there simply isn't enough rotational force available for a hurricane in Panama, at only 9 degrees N. latitude.
Rainstorms/thunderstorms, yes, lots of 'em. Hurricanes? Certainly not since I've been here. Going on a couple of decades, now.

I rebuilt my generator carburator today based on these storm tracks. I live where Charlie Francis and Jeanne crossed paths in 04 and went six weeks with no A/C. This storm may not be strong but it only takes one tree limb to put you in the dark.

Ah, sorry! As noted, never seen a hurricane anywhere near Ciudad Panama. Florida, well, yep, they get some.
Sorry for the confusion.
