GATTACA because at the time I interested in genetics and human genome sequencing, and I liked the movie.
I am named after our now deceased cat, sneakers. Dang! That was one DUMB cat! Why I chose that name, I’ll never know! ;-)
The first Jefferson Starship album was titled “Blows Against the Empire”.
That was derived from a line by an Indian dude named Jiddu Krishnamurti...
“It’s a fresh wind that blows against the empire”
Not being a fan of empires of any sort, it seemed appropriate at a time (1998) that the Clinton crime enterprise had grown from a state to a national affair, and it seem just as appropriate today as that national stain has become a global disaster.
I guess I could update to expofarmer.
WELCOME TO THE
(where our troops, allies
and their families can refresh themselves)
Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our
Military, our Allies, and their families.
WOO HOO! Procon posting the thread!
Thank you, Pro, for preparing the Canteen
for today's activities
How interesting to read some of the posts.
Good job.
I got my screen name sorta from my youngest.
When he got his email addy
he registered as muddin4fun
because he was into 4-wheeling through the mud.
As many of you know I like the beach
so I though "hey cool, I'll do beachn4fun on FR".
Come in, sit down.
Grab a cup of joe or tasty tea.
Mingle a bit, chat with the troops
or family member.
There's always plenty of conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS in the FR Canteen.
I have a hair appointment this morning,
so I'll have to post and run.
But, remember, I'll be doing the thread
for FRiday, so I'll be back later this evening.

May have to consider that after we move. BTW, anyone looking for a house on the Jersey shore?
C’mon man... Are you series?
What fun!
Mine is simple...my name is Polly. Figured this was light hearted and easy to remember.
During my work years, (now retired), it seems the name Polly, when spoken, is difficult to understood, especially on the phone. Only because it is not a common name. Most people, no matter how clearly I spoke, interpreted it as Paulie, or, Tolly (really), or, Holly. Lol.
To keep from repeating my name over and over and to clarify quickly I would say..”Polly want a cracker”. Polly, being the operative word, of course. Immediately, without fail, everyone knew my name exactly. Not only that, they never forgot!!!
I have absolutely no idea why I chose Polly put the kettle on rather than Polly want a cracker. Go figure.
BTW..years ago, 1996, I chose a handle for AOL email and also used that as my FreeRepublic handle.....MOMSTHEONE. I rarely used this forum when I signed up back then. Must have been mid 2000 or so. I was working 55 to 60 hours a week and time was short. Lost my password and old email address, but I am really partial to that handle.
Anyone know how to research and get it back?
P.S. on CB radio in early 1970’s my handle was “gremlin”. Friend gave it to me because I am tall and “gremlins” were invisible trouble makers in airplane engines - WWII.
Wow I really took off on a long rant here didn’t I?
Gadzooks, Imp-- And here I always thought it was short... for 'Impident pygmy'--
As that is prevalent for... youse 'old time' Red Byrd fans from Chicago
I designed them and built them. Masers, tunnel diode amplifiers, low noise and power bipolar and FET transistor amplifiers and a few other microwave gadgets.
And along the way I discovered a simple method for measuring the IP of microwave amplifiers in less than a minute once you had a setup with two sources and a spectrum analyzer.
The good old days.
Great work. My job was to ensure that the right component worked with others in a chain (mixers, splitters, attenuators, amplifiers, etc.) to keep the overall system intermodulation products below certain levels, especially in high dynamic range systems (sometimes operating over 120 dB). I worked for a company that built RF target generators for airborne radars. They were used by the military, etc. to test radars, Operational Flight Programs, etc.
I'm lysdexic
