The Bald Eagle was chosen as the national emblem of the United States in 1792, and has been a spiritual symbol for Native Americans for far longer. We treasure it for its magnificent beauty and strength. A pair of eagles builds a huge stick nest in a large tree, often a white pine, and returns to the nest year after year, repairing and strengthening it as needed. Eagles eat fish, seabirds, and a wide variety of other prey, including road-killed animals. They often grab and fly off with fish caught by Osprey.
