It has become known as a mecca of violent crime and poverty, and now a viral video is giving an unpleasant view of Detroit after dark. The clip, called Driving through Detroit at night, was filmed by a woman who was a passenger in a car going around the Motor City and was posted to Twitter at the weekend. It shows terrifying scenes of gangs gathered on the sidewalk, prostitutes lifting up their skirts and dancing, and even a man being run over by a car on purpose.

You know what that city really needs?
Robocop.
That city needs Robocop.
Detroit and Chicago and WashDC and ..and...and...are not very pleasant or safe places in the daylight, either
destroyed by Obama/Hillary/Democrat/Communist/Socialist/politics
once great, thriving cities..destroyed....and millions of peoples’ lives destroyed with them
There is no video at the link ... what gives?
Ten years ago I WALKED from Greek Town to my hotel (the one with the five round towers) at around 1:00 a.m. on many occasions. It was seedy, to put it mildly, but I didn’t feel threatened, much...
I get a feeling that the Lord may have been protecting me.
the wrong side won in 1865
Today, it is notable for being the only American city to grow to over 1 million and later fall below that mark and the only major American city to file for bankruptcy. The last time Detroit elected a Republican mayor was 1958.
Yep. Besides the Southern charm and chivalry, there was some seriously principled rule of law going on in the South.
I wouldn’t have made that drive in anything less than an APC.
Nevermind, saw the video on her twitter feed
The first seconds of the video show a real, honest to goodness ‘bike gang’. NOTE: Not a ‘biker gang’, but a ‘bike gang’. WOW! At least they never have to worry about the price of fuel!
The last scene records the sounds of the wildlife that inhabit Detroit.
This could be part of a National Geographic Special.
Yeah.
On a positive note, the chick who tweeted that is pretty bad ass.
Seriously , though, a handful of urban areas are terrificly vulnerable to a land blockade. Cut power, intercept truck shipments of food, gasoline, etc....and much of the troubles that plague us will solve themselves.
Where was your hotel? Greektown is about a block from where DPD was located.
In the 1950’s if Detroit was one of the wealthiest cities in America (it was) then it was one of the wealthiest cities in the entire world.
I think I saw this in National Geographic one time...
GM Renaissance Center. It was a long and quite awkward walk, actually. The previous trip was Courtyard Detroit. The walk was better but not by much.
FWIW, I don’t gamble, but I love to watch people play roulette. And it was all there was to do there...
Well, considering the walk I took, I guess I DO gamble. ;-)
Where was the video, all I saw were photos.........
